Highway Assist Advice?

Hi all - Picked up a 50e yesterday and drove it 400+ miles home. Almost all of it was with assisted driving on, but it never gave us the option for full hands free highway assist once during the trip and we were on major highways 80% of the time (95, 495, 80, etc.). We have all the driving assistance packages on this car and everything is set to on. We even used the iDrive nav to come home and nada.

Any advice on how to get them to turn on?

Did you change the mode? It should be the assist driving plus.

You have to select it from the menu on the steering wheel, it's the last one over. By default, it will only do normal mode.

You also have to make sure the steering wheel is not blocking the sensors looking at your eyes. If they are you will get an error on the screen.

See video below.

Make sure the assisted driving plus feature is activated under the driving assistance settings in the main menu on the center screen. Also turn on automatic lane change assist when you use the turn signals.

Then when you press I/O on the steering wheel then you press Imode button, you should now have two options to select, driving assist and assist plus.

So assisted diving plus is check on the iDrive, I always check the mode and it only shows me two doesn’t show me the third one, and the wheel isn’t blocking my eyes…

Did this on iDrive. Even tried turning it off than on. No dice. Still only the distance control mode and the assisted driving mode…

Per the video does it have to me in medium follow distance?

Are you logged into your BMW ID (aka profile)? That's a requirement

This is from an adult, tech-savvy owner of many BMWs over 30+ years. Before making the decision to build and order my '23 X5 45e in Feb/March 2023 I invested HOURS viewing YouTubes and reading on-line manuals and how-to articles etc.

It took me a few days of driving my X5 45e and exploring the various drive modes and the many other features to get comfortable with deciding when and where to pick my desired features for a drive.

These vehicles are NOT your "Father's Oldsmobile"!

If you have 8.5 installed, there is no separate mode anymore. It turns on automatically on eligible highways, it just displays «assited friving plus available” on you head up display and you can remove your hands from the steering wheel

You do need to log in your myBMW account in the car, and drive the car under the profile (not guest profile). After that, you should see the prompt after a few miles of highway driving.

If you’re wearing sunglasses, make sure they let IR pass thru, or the eye tracking cameras won’t be able to see your eyes. I have at least one pair of sunglasses that don’t work with the system very well. You can test this by not wearing any sunglasses and see if that’s the problem.

To see what highways have assist plus availability, you can go into BMW native navigation, and there’s an option to view that in settings somewhere. I’ll check later how to do that.

It’s been logged in since we got it and I make sure I am on my profile because my seat is very different from my wife’s

Read this in another thread. Just drove 30 miles without them off completely and clear view to the camera, and it still didn’t give me the option.

Can you go to the idrive map and see if it can show the "high way assist supported highway"?

I may of had this issue when I first got the car. I think I had to reset (30 sec reboot) and update apps on idrive. I logged out and back into the car. On my next drive all was ok.

Just make sure all services are still checked after logout and login in the car.

The steering wheel lights must be enabled for HA to be available. No where in the manual does it say this.
