Hi Folks,

I’m currently in the process of trying to place an order for a 2025 BMW X6 M60i but I’ve hit a snag and could really use some advice.

After a bit of back-and-forth, I finally received what I think is the buyer’s order today. However, to my surprise, the document originally listed a different vehicle (a 2024 X6) and did not include the build code. I asked the salesperson to make the necessary edits to reflect the build code and the actual vehicle I’m looking to purchase. What I got back was only the make and model correctly updated but with the wrong build code (the vehicle year seems purposely left out). The salesperson mentioned that he doesn’t have the VIN until the order is placed but my concern is that the vehicle I want isn’t accurately listed on the buyer’s order.

Is this standard practice? My journey through multiple dealerships attempting to secure a buyer’s order for this model has been challenging … from dealers not having allocations to attempts at pushing me towards entirely different vehicles. I’m attaching a copy of what they sent over in hopes that someone here can provide some clarity. The first document for a different vehicle (one that appears to be on their lot) and the second is scratched off and written in.

What should I be on the lookout for in this situation? I’m hesitant to sign anything since it’s not reflecting the actual vehicle I intend to purchase.

Any insights or experiences shared would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance for your help!

Others with more knowledge on this than myself will chime in I'm sure, but I'd agree... I'd be very skeptical to sign off on a buy order that was handwritten w/ whiteout... Mine was entirely computer generated and was spit out by the BMW system.

No VIN is normal, but I did have a production number and a status code (iirc) and none of it was handwritten or whitedout

Right, I figured no VIN is normal since the vehicle doesn’t exist yet.

Does your buyers order look similar to what they provided to me? (Without the white out of course &#128522

Thank you!

Other than non-professional looking, all seems normal to me. They don't have an allocation for you so there really isn't much they can give you but the build code number. As long as the numbers match what you think your deal is then you are good to go.

Oh, okay. I guess I’m not using the term correctly. I was told they have 1 build spot left for an X6.

It really doesn't make a difference but if you feel better then you can have them enter your order and put the production number on it rather than the build code and print out the VIR. In general though, what they are providing is enough since you have the numbers and build details listed.

This is what mine looked like - an already allocated vehicle that was still able to be modified (the build specific options I chose obviously go on).

TurtleBoy would definitely know better what's typical, at the various stages

Doesn't seem right, they could have you waiting for too long. But how much are you paying up front for the order? What is your risk? How much discount are they offering?

If I were in this situation, I would just look for another dealership. Sometimes the smallest details alert us. I would call around to other BMW dealerships in the area and just ask the simple question, do you have any allocations currently for 2025 BMW X6 builds. If they have any allocations, as other has mentioned, they can take your build code and provide you with a production number. Happy Hunting!

They wanted a $5k deposit and no additional specifics except the “we are doing you a favor because X6 builds are very rare” schpeel. I took someone else’s advice and am going through another dealer.

You’re absolutely right. I took your advice and reviewed the list of top 50 BMW dealers mentioned in this forum. After calling one of them, I’ve already placed my deposit. They seem very competent and efficient and I’m genuinely excited about it.

Thank you!

Well done, that'll teach the former guys if you let them know what you had to do.

Nice, after placing your deposit, did you get a production number for you build?

Usually it's a 1k deposit, so hopefully that's what you put down instead of 5k.

Yep, that’s exactly how much it was along with submitting my license, insurance and a credit app. 👍🏻

They said I’d be able to pull up the status of the build on BMWs site in about 4-6 weeks.

Thank you again.

No, but thank you. I’ll follow up with the salesperson now and ask about that.

If they have an allocation then they should be able to give you the production number, and VIR (Vehicle Inquiry Report), after they enter the order. Some dealers take a few days to enter the order after getting it depending on how they are set up.

Garage List
Ask them to itemize that “doc fee.” That’s way too high. Should be about $150.

OP's is cheap compared to some states, it all depends on the location.

I deposited about 1,300 USD in order to get an allocation. And now our market is currently closed for 40i X5s, only the higher priced ones can be configured.

It took 4 months to receive my X5 M60i. I am soooo happy I got it.

Totally agree. I’m purchasing in Indiana but when I leased my X4 in Miami, the doc fee was $1195.

My doc fee for my 2023 Honda CRV was $1400.
