Exhaust Cutouts M60i

So... I've decided instead of messing with removing the resonator or mufflers etc. to solve the exhaust sound issues, i'm just going to go with electronic cutouts.

Has anyone done these? Also, any recommendations on which kit to go with?

Just remember this will most likely require a tune as well. Might have to wait for a BM3 (or similar) solution to come out.

I highly doubt cutouts will require a tune...

No way that will require a tune. Forget about it.

No. Doesn’t require a time. The one I have, on my other bmw, it is plug and play, like a small device intercept between oem wiring and the oem flap. I can use remote to permanently open the flap instead of modulate the flap base in throttle condition. Very simple DIY.

Won’t the reduced back pressure cause over boost? Thus activating the boost controller and causing fuel cutouts?

No, totally not related. Max boost pressure is set in ECU, and control by as you said boost controller. It is in act all the time. Turbo spin rate, if you will, is control by turbo waste gate, which is also control by ECU. Reducing back pressure doesn't change the upper limit. It may actually improve turbo spin up time.

Shit I just realized I might have order the wrong diameter. I tried searching and didn't find it - does anyone know the exhaust diameter on the M60?

It will actually more than likely reduce boost due to less back pressure.

This is where I think the issue will come into play, the efficiency or ability to spin the turbo easier. Here is a link to the same guy I linked above, while not an apples to apples comparison he was hitting the boost limit and it was cutting fuel, now how often a DD is maxing boost, that is probably another discussion. He begins talking about this around the 6:20 mark, this will probably make more sense than my rudimentary explanation.

Highly unlikely it will reduce boost, the exhaust system is now more efficient, thus it can clear air out faster allowing the turbo to spin faster, sucking in more air. In theory, you could run less boost (pro tune) with this setup and put out the same power which would be less stress on the turbos.

hmm, I don't think you can run less boost and get the same power. In turbo car, boost = power. Boost is the pressure on the charge pipe, is control by boost controller via boost release valve and waste gate. It should be regardless the exhaust unless it way too restricted, which I don't think it is the case for stock car. Better flow will let turbo spool up faster, reach max set boost faster. If you reduce boost setting, you will have less power.
