How much farther can I negotiate?

So I found an X5 in California with MSRP $66,695 so I emailed the dealership.
They replied back instantly with an offer of $59,705 without incentives,
which he claimed is 9% off MSRP...its actually about 10.3% off MSRP

I countered that I want 13% off MSRP. Is that reasonable? Is that heard of?

He was asking whether I want to Finance or Lease, and I told him I haven't decided yet (although I want to lease)

Whats my next step? Negotiate the Money Factor? What is the base money factor right now?

Also, Im looking at 36months/12 or 15k miles.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

13% off is a bit unreasonable IMO. The dealer may even take offense! I'd shoot for 11-12% off.

There is always room for negotiation.
Look at M4 CS and M8 with 25% off

Base MF = 0.00099 and residuals for 15K = 52% and 12K = 54%

I’ll never understand when someone is trying to grind a service/product (in this case a luxury, performance vehicle) down to the bone while also having incredibly high expectations for said service/product... You want to buy a premium SUV but are here asking if 13% off MSRP before incentives is reasonable? That’s just disrespectful at that point. Go buy a Toyota and stop disrespecting the BMW brand.

9% is very good given the times and the low amount of inventory left on dealer lots. I do not think they will go any lower but you never know. Do you really want to buy a car in CA when you live in PA? You should be able to get a similar deal much closer to you in NY or NJ.

huh? Why wouldn't you try to get the best possible deal? I don't care if it's a Bentley, you ALWAYS negotiate.

13% is definitely aspirational especially in this climate, but by no means is it disrespectful to the dealer, and certainly not to the brand. I personally start off with 12% with the goal of 10%, and am satisfied as low as 9% off.

Is it disrespectful when a dealer gives you 1% off. Dealers are out to make as much as possible and the buyer is out to pay the least. Doesn't matter which brand.

No I don't think that's disrespectful either. As you said, dealers are trying to make as much as possible and buyers want to pay the least possible. It's all part of negotiating. My point was it doesn't matter if it's a Toyota, a BMW, or a Bentley, you should always try to negotiate regardless of your financial situation or the type of car.

Regardless, in this case the dealer was already giving over 10% off, OP simply countered with 13% which is totally fine. The expectation isn't that the dealer will simply fold at 13%, it's to see how far out the deal can be stretched. At best the dealer will increase the discount, at worst, they'll stick to the 10% and OP takes it or leaves it. Either way it's a win-win.

if you lease, make sure you look at the whole deal not just the amount off MSRP. Money Factor is a big one. Also negotiate the sale price before incentives first if you can. Happy hunting

What??

Doesn't mean you dont do your due diligence and negotiate just because its a "premium" vehicle. Money trumps everything. Its hard earned. Why are you even on this thread bothering yourself to open up a laptop and reply to a thread about PRICING, ORDERING, and TRACKING in the first place? Go straight to the dealer and give them your money. Im here to save my hard earned dollar, no matter the brand.
Also, Toyota>BMW. There's a reason Supra fans are all hurt about partnering with BMW. Yeah, I know that'll be hard to swallow on a BMW forum. I own both brands.

"Toyota > BMW" lol... Right. Also, I just realized you opted for a 328i.. This all makes sense now.

Nothing wrong with negotiating. It's his money. You get the best deal you can. Not disrespecting anything by negotiating. Not following your logic there

Well, I suppose that we are in a capitalist economy and BMW is here to maximize their profits and pay shareholders a good dividend. Not to make people happy or give back to society. Keep in mind that this automaker just had his first negative quarter since 2009.

My personal opinion is negotiate as much as you can. At the end of the day, it's business and not personal. Be polite, ask if there is room for, but at the end of the day, you will close a deal if it is beneficial to both parties.

Let's suppose they give you a 13% discount and they did not make much money on the sale, do not worry, they will charge it on the financing, or on the check up visits, or they would rather secure another sale and get an extra bonus because they needed your car to reach that milestone.

Thanks to this forum you can see what it is reasonable or where the limit might be, but asking for more or for less, up to you. You asked for too much, then, the rep will tell you cannot make it work.

You can negotiate for anything you want. The dealer however made a extremely reasonable upfront offer. If I were the dealer my counter would be 8% off to that offer. I was once selling a limited production car with a very defined resale value at 28,000. I listed the car at 28,500 as mine was absolutely perfect. First buyer showed up and did a hard test drive followed by a offer of 19,500. I said no thanks goodbye. He said what is your counter offer. I said I have no counter offer to 19,500. He said he wanted a counter so I said 29,000. He said that’s ridiculous your only asking 28,500. I said it’s no more ridiculous than you offering 19,500. Another buyer showed up 3 hours later and immediately offered 27,500. I countered at 28,000 but I keep a 200 dollar cover and the deal was done. First buyer called back that night and offered 26,000. I just said no and hung up.
