Kick to open tailgate
Have had no luck getting the tailgate to open via kick.
Searched through the manual and didn't see this feature listed. However, I know members here do in fact have it (https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1584443 ) Is there a hidden setting, or some special conditions to enable kick to open? |

Update: just ran into on another thread,
"I had emailed BMW Genius regarding this same question a few weeks ago and they wrote back with this: "Comfort Access includes the ability to open and close the tailgate using the Smart Trunk "Kick to Open" procedure. If the vehicle is equipped with the trailer hitch time of production, this feature is removed. " I do have the trailer hitch preinstalled. No kicking for me... |

Kick To Open
My X5 tailgate works perfectly. I don’t “kick” but wave my foot under the rear bumper. It just takes one right to left foot wave to trigger the opening.

On X5s I've test driven, opening the trunk with the remote or in-cabin button electrically opens the top section.
The lower part remains closed. However, watching videos etc, suggests a variant exists where both top and bottom auto-open. Is this a special, optional, feature or configurable in iDrive? If optional, what's the option named?

That's is correct, you can program upper or both. Like mentioned above, you must have comfort acces, I think it is standard in the US , but not in Europe, without the lower part is manual. Some threads of UK owners about this.
