Remote start does not start heated seats
I thought I solved getting my heated seats turned on with remote start. I went into the climate menu and told the car to turn on the heated seats automatically when I started the car below 50.
Worked like a charm the next time I hopped in the X5 and started it. Automatic heated seats! Then I tried the same thing with remote start. Nada. They did not turn on. Seems like a bug in remote start? Makes too much sense the they should turn on? |

I was about to post and ask the same thing. None of the Climate Rules are actived on Remote Start either by Key or the BMW Connected Drive App. That's a disappointment.

I'll add to the story that auto seat heating does not turn on the heat until you buckle your seatbelt. That in itself is silly and prevents seats automatically warming up while you, say, clean off the snow off a running car. But I thought perhaps if the seatbelt was already fastened at remote start, perhaps that would trigger seat heating at remote start. Alas no.

There was nothing in the Climate Rules for the Steering Wheel.

When I get in the vehicle and press the start button I then have to turn the steering wheel heat back on, sure nice to have the wheel warmed up some. |

If trying to code the seats with remote you may need to look for some setting looking for weight on seat. I've noticed the seat heat turns off automatically when someone gets out of the car and turns on again when getting back in.

Yes I like that it does this, otherwise all 4 seats would be on constantly, but needs an exception for remote start scenarios.

I have confirmed in my G01 that automatic heated seats (based on outside temperature) only turns on when I buckle the seatbelt. So on remote start it wouldn't turn on.
However, if I buckle the seatbelt when I exit, next time I remote start the heated seat lights come on. That being said, I think there is a weight requirement for heated seats even when the light indication is on. (not 100% sure about this but it feels like even though the lights are on the seat doesn't warm up much until I sit in it.) Can anyome confirm this? Lastly, does anyone know if the seatbelt requirment (and weight if it is in fact a thing) can be disabled through FDL coding?

Any update on heated seats working during remote car start? I have no custom coding, X5 manufactured June 2019 software upgraded recently to 2020.07.45 (or 48 cant remember) from 2020.03.XX and still only steering wheel heats up not seats. Dealership said it only works on cars manufactured Dec 2019 onwards and there is no retrofit. This sounds very disappointing for BMW, considering how easy it should be to fix since steering wheel heats up just fine and everything works once you are in the car. But getting into the cold seat with warm wheel is idiotic concept to say the least...

Could this be due to a fire hazard from having the seats heating for an indefinite amount of time without anyone inside the vehicle? If there happened to be a defect in the wiring or heating elements there would be no way to turn off the vehicle or turn off the seat heating prior to it potentially starting a car fire.
