New app? BMW Traffic Camera Information
I just saw this app pop up on my ConnectedDrive portal store...it says i can purchase 15 months for $25. Anyone use this? I'm in the US, so i figured our other NA and Euro friends probably have these cool things already:
BMW TRAFFIC CAMERA INFORMATION Added safety in road traffic: BMW Traffic Camera Information alerts you to fixed and mobile roadside speed checks and red light cameras. WHAT IS TRAFFIC CAMERA INFORMATION? With the Traffic Camera Information function, you be confident that you're on the safe side when driving your BMW: This service reliably warns you of mobile and stationary speed cameras. Whether your speed is being checked or there is a red light camera - Traffic Camera Information makes sure you are alerted in advance about upcoming traffic enforcement cameras. Profit from advanced safety in road traffic, less stress and lower costs. You will be alerted in advance about mobile and stationary speed checks and red light cameras on the road. With the help of visual warnings on the dashboard or in the head-up display, you can easily read all information while driving. ALWAYS INFORMED OF SPEED CAMERAS IN ADVANCE. Speed cameras are installed to improve safety in road traffic. They help to protect more vulnerable road users, which is why they are often placed in front of kindergartens, schools, nursing homes or hospitals. Sometimes they provide noise protection near residential areas. For the driver, however, they have become a nuisance: The flashing red light can dazzle the driver, causing them to brake abruptly or even jerk the steering wheel. To ensure you never again miss a speed camera, your BMW is now available with a warning function: Traffic Camera Information alerts you in advance of stationary and mobile speed cameras and red light cameras along your route. Traffic Camera Information reminds you to drive carefully, ensuring added safety and more attentiveness in road traffic. The service protects you and other drivers against unpleasant surprises and uncontrolled responses. Last but not least, the Traffic Camera Information saves you unnecessary costs and stress. All warnings are conveniently displayed on your dashboard screen or the head-up display. |

Testing the New Traffic Camera Info Feature
Took the G05 for a spin from 495 Outer to 395 Inner Loop and exited on 3A SR-236 East, Duke Street where there's a red light camera at the intersection of SR-236 and South Walker Street. The Red Light Camera warning came up as I was on the exit ramp. Earliest warning from traffic camera was: 0.25mi then 1000ft, 800ft, 600ft, 400ft, 300ft, 200ft depending on your rate of speed Visual warning is prominent and shows up in HUD with distance countdown to traffic enforcement:
Will take a spin tomorrow to where a couple of speed cameras are located in MD and DC. Traffic Camera Information Shown in HUD

I want this BAD. same problem as above though, the website won't take my money. I input the CC information, click "save".... and it just refreshes the same screen.... it won't advance to the checkout/purchase screen.
I've already written the BMW connectesdrive folks. Are they generally quick to respond? |

When DR was released, I tried using my AMEX Centurion, then Plat and RG for purchase but none worked. Ended up having to use a VISA/MC. It's an issue with their 3rd party transaction vendor - doesn't like AMEX 4-digit card security code. No issue with BMW ConnectedDrive Canada with AMEX.

And.... all my CCs now have my APO address attached to them. I run into a few websites like this..... they list all 50 states, but do not list AE and AP (Armed Forces Europe/Pacific) as possible state choices. Most modern websites do...... apparently BMW hasn't caught up with the rest of the world. Going to call them on the phone tomorrow. Usually when I've run into this in the past, they can manually enter "AE" as the state. Fingers crossed. I REALLY want this..... bad. I would pay 3x this much for it with the amount of speed cameras in Belgium. I swear, this is the speed camera Capital of the world. |

I called them a couple of hours ago. They told me the problem is with their payment system because they are in the process of doing updates. She said it should be working by tomorrow. She also said that she couldn't take payments over the phone either because of the update processing going on with their payment system.

There are several radar detectors that are packaged with databases that provide such information and more.

In Switzerland if they find a camera system in your car (even turned off) or even installed on your phone they may fine you 580 euro. In France and Germany it is not allowed to show the a act location but it is allowed to define a danger zone of 300 meters. I Think in Belgium it is still allowed. Best for detecting speed cameras was the Coyote app on IPhone. It warns for danger zones because you can't call them radars. It works really well it is community based. I think it was around 60 euro a year for subscription. I don't use it anymore and took it of my phone. It is illegal to even have this is your phone in Germany en Switzerland. Don't know about other European countries. |

And.... since we don't have android auto yet, constantly monitoring a cell phone screen is a PITA. This app...... is perfect. It's just what I need. Hopefully the payment thing gets sorted out and I can get it. |

I GOT IT! I GOT IT!
Paid online, everything went through, (it's 10:45am, July 2nd, here in Belgium). I went out to my car and nothing was there, but a notification popped up about 3 minutes later. I went through the following steps..... but I haven't tested it yet. Hopefully I did this correctly? Last edited by Ninefourteener; 07-02-2020 at 03:52 AM.. |
