Saving to Profile
I recently picked up a new '21 X5. My last BMW was a 2008 model year so I'm still learning much of the new iDrive system. Overall, I like it a lot but there are a few things that I just can't figure out.
The main item is simply understanding the concept of how the various settings are remembered and stored to a profile. In reading the manual, it sounds like most anything you change should be auto saved to the profile and restored again when you enter with a linked key or call up the driver profile. However, I've observed that some functions seem to not work this way. For example, if I set the 'synchronize' feature in climate control settings. It works as soon as I set it, but if I exit the car and re-enter, the synchronization is lost. No climate settings were changed in between so I don't understand why it doesn't preserve my last setting. A second example, the '21s (not sure about earlier models as these now have mild-hybrids on the 40i) default to an 'energy' meter instead of a tachometer. You can adjust this in the car settings but, like the synchronize, it defaults back to the energy meter upon re-entry. I've tried making these changes and then saving the driver's seat memory, thinking this might trigger it, but no luck. Any advice? I tried searching the forum for the synchronize issue but I don't find this exact issue. Thanks in advance!

The profile settings are a law unto themselves sometimes.
All I can suggest is making sure that when you configure a setting, you confirm you are logged into your profile and not using the guest account. Same for when you check that the setting has 'stuck'. I haven't tested the wheel setting changes, other than to switch to winter tyres when applicable and then back again. These settings were definitely retained as is the aircon sync. I did go through a period where none of my nav favourites would be retained. They just wiped from the car and CD app within a few minutes of addition. It fixed itself after a few weeks so must have been a BMW CD cloud issue as I didn't do anything else. |
