Curious About Your Experience with My Garage Production Status
Hello all,
Just curious about what showed on your production status milestones on "My Garage" when your vehicle was being built. After weeks of "Production Begins" this morning I went into "Assembly Begins". This afternoon it jumped to "Quality Check". The automated line says the vehicle will be complete today. Does anyone have any insight as to what controls the status on "My Garage"? Is it automated, is it manually done? My neighbor ordered an X5 the day before I did and "Quality Check" never showed up on his status. What gives??? |

It is automated as the vehicle goes through the production process although there often is a delay and it is not done in real time. QC can go very quickly so your neighbor likely did have that status it is just that it was updated to the next phase and he/she probably missed it.

- Order Received - Schedule for production - Production begins - Exterior body assembly begins - In paint booth - Entering assembly line - Assembly in progress - Quality check - Final assembly - Ready for transport - Awaiting carrier assignment - Dispatched from factory - At the port - In transit - At the dealership - Vehicle Delivered It's automated but it feels like it's manual some days. Tracking will jump through many steps quickly as updates are delayed and not in real time. My MY20 G05 reached "Awaiting Carrier Assignment" even though it was scheduled for Performance Center Delivery. They literally had to drive it off the production line to a holding lot for PCD then across the street to the Delivery Center for exterior and interior detailing.

In my case, it was behind. It still said “awaiting carrier assignment” after I had taken delivery. About 2 days later, it said delivered .

Mine hit the “Production Begins” stage 3/1/21 but that doesn't mean anything is physically happening yet. It is just been accepted into the production que for that model run. It is still listed at that stage and will for at least another week or so. I have a contact inside BMW plant, and he is watching my build from inside. He was given an actual start date in which physical work begins. That date he was given is 3/12/21 at 10:04:42 AM. This is actually the body shop start date only. It then takes 9 days from what they refer to as "The Body Stacker" to move over to begin finally being assembled as the vehicle. From there it will move pretty fast as the line moves constantly at some rate of speed. Then it could possible sit in a lot waiting for transportation of what ever is needed. Remember ALL X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7 for entire world are manufactured there.

I don’t know the actual hours that the plant runs. I have seen suggestions that there are two shifts operating six days a week. But according to the tracker, my X5 went through several stages in the wee hours. At about midnight Spartanburg time, mine showed “entering assembly line” as a new update. Then the next morning at about nine Spartanburg time, it showed “awaiting carrier assignment.” I’ve watched the plant videos and they show things moving quickly. If accurate, it looks like mine was done largely after midnight.

wife's previous bimmers for the last 13 years have been 3- & 5-series, produced in Germany. The progress indicator in MyGarage updated in a timely manner.
The G05 is my first bimmer. as we know, it's produced in the US. the progress indicator went from production begins to awaiting carrier assignment within 24h, which I doubt really happened. for me, the end goal was more important rather than its step-by-step progress. |

It’s a mystery as to how it actually works and seems to be pretty buggy. It would seem it would be completely automated. Videos of that plant and assembly processes are amazing. At a minimum, if not automated, someone could read a barcode at significant steps.
Last Wednesday morning mine showed “awaiting carrier assignment.” Last night it was still showing the same. This morning it says sorry for the inconvenience. The site can’t be accessed. There were several days earlier when that was the case. Grrr. |
