C&D posts a 'crushing' first review of the MB EQA EV

The title is:
2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA250 Is a Half-Hearted EV

From our initial experience behind the wheel in Germany, Benz's electrified version of the small GLA250 crossover doesn't make a great case for itself.
.................................................. .................................................. ....

This is what they say: "In fact, everything that Mercedes-Benz has achieved with the MFA platform over the past decade—precision, agility, lightness—is lost in the EV conversion. The EQA250 wallows around country roads with an abundance of squat, dive, and roll and a remarkable lack of excitement. Brake feel is particularly bad during enthusiastic driving, and during hard cornering the stability-control system reins in the car with a rude display of authority. It should be mentioned that our test car was shod with 215/60R-18 winter tires; performance should somewhat improve with the standard 235/55R-18 summer tires. Not that compact luxury crossovers see much off-road use, but the EQA even suffers in that hypothetical use case. Because of the huge battery pack, its breakover angle is less than that of the GLA."

Wow. So are they saying it’s not the best? Then it must be nothing. What is going on at Mercedes for the last several years? They can’t get out of their own way.

Not surprising, its a half baked EV, something that the Germans specialize in. Whether its an Audi E-Tron, BMW iX3, or Benz EQA, the Germans need to realize you can't just throw some batteries on an ICE platform and call it a day. All three of these models were likely just put together in a short amount of time in hopes of meeting emissions and reducing fines, all three have poor range, and large shortcomings from compromised platforms, to even lack of AWD on an SUV, probably one of the most desirable features for SUV shoppers. Even VW's efforts into making the iD4 are poor and uninspired compared to similarly priced rivals like the Ford Mach-E and upcoming Hyundai Ioniq5.

Hopefully forthcoming products such as the Q4-Etron, iX, and EQS really will change the game and improve at being good EV's, because other than the Taycan, the Germans aren't leading when it comes to EV's.

If it isn’t as fast as a Taycan turbo, I’m not interested.
