Updated to 11/2020 today.

When I picked it up it was in hybrid mode. I switched to electric individual, stopped at the mall after 15 minutes came back and it started in hybrid again. Problem not solved by the update. Not a big issue.

I must say, with the 07/2020.54 software release, I encounter this issue a lot less. Before the upgrade, I had it about 1/week. After update 1/month.

Play around with the config menus. The car will NOT start in the last mode you left it in, but in a standard mode which you define somewhere in said menus. The factory default for standard mode is hybrid, which is why it keeps switching back to it.

Updated SW to 11/2020.42 at dealer 3 weeks ago.
They also completely reset all car settings.
After using car for 3 weeks , it happen 2 times for me, that car started in hybrid mode after powering on. So it looks like SW update doesn't help for 100%. It helps to reduce , how often it happen ( before it was like 20% ), now like 2%. Before I had another problem also , that it has not been always able to switch profile automatically using second key. SW update doesn't help. It happen already one time for me in these three weeks. I have to switch profile manually on the screen.

Today my car was at the dealer to download the computer logging. During the past 6 weeks I've noted mileage when the issue occurred. These logs and my observations have been send to BMW for further analyses. Now we wait for a fix/solution.

And Adaptive?

Not a big issue by the way you can just switch back after a minute.
I was asked by the BMW Genious to try Adaptive instead of Hybrid and seems I get great mileage. Don't fancy trying Hybrid only.
I presume we are talking about the console switches.

Overall mixes mileage is better in hybrid or adaptive mode.

But I prefer electric individual (you can set the car to start op in electric individual) when my commute matches the battery capacity.

Do we know why this is happening? My replacement 45e (picked up 3 days ago) has 11/2020 software, I drove it in electric only (starts in hybrid each time) with no issues for the past 3 days. However today it kept switching to Hybrid. at one point it would switch back every few minutes. The only difference the past few days is exterior temp. It has been around 5-8 celsius, however today it was 1-2.

Any ideas guys? My last 45e was able to stay on Electric on start each time. this one so far is always hybrid.

My 45e, November delivery, was on 7/2020 and is now on 11/2020. I set it to start in Electric and it has always done so. I've also never had the issue of the charging resetting to 6 amps. I don't think anyone has come up with a cause for either of these issues. Some people have them and some don't

Spencer518 is there anything special we have to do to set it to start in electric? I thought it would remember the last mode it was on when the engine was turned off.

When delivered the car is set to start in Hybrid. You can change that to Electric in the iDrive settings. From the owner's manual:

ELECTRIC INDIVIDUAL can be specified as the
default mode, for example.
1. "CAR"
2. "Settings"
3. "Driving mode"
4. "Configure INDIVIDUAL"
5. Select the desired setting.
The setting is stored for the driver profile currently
used.

I have done that but it does keep changing back to hybrid. I will give it another go and attribute it to chair screen interface error :-)

I just took it out today, did start in electric but about 7 miles into it it changed to hybrid. I spoke to the dealer and they said that it was the temp outside being too cold. Have you heard this before?

Mine didn't do it for quite a long time but since 2-3 days it starts in hybrid again. I am not driving long trips but it didn't switch to hybrid while driving.

It was colder last week than this week but it didn't do it last week.

I can't find a pattern

It would be nice if BMW could give us a straight answer.

Not sure if I buy that. It's a lot colder in upstate NY than Virginia. I will say that I pretty much always Climatize while connected to my charger before I go anywhere. Maybe that makes a difference.

In my experience the last week the switch to hybrid happened more when my car was parked outside during the day. I also pre conditioning in my garage in the morning and it happens less

Spencer518 Perhaps, but it is parked in the garage and temp is typically around the mid 50s. Didn't think I would need to. I can try that.

Garage List
let me preface by stating that i enabled starting in EI mode during initial setup a month ago. the handful of times my car has started in Hybrid have been in our garage when i leave for work in the morning. before i get into my car, my wife sets her purse in her G30 (540i), which sits right next to my 45e. her default mode is Hybrid.

i'm wondering if the close proximity of her fob triggers the 45e to her settings even though she doesn't open any of the doors or press any button on her 45e fob. when i get into the car, though, it's my profile and my settings immediately, but only sometimes does it start in Hybrid despite my default EI mode.

at work, i park in an open parking lot exposed to the elements. i don't recall my 45e ever starting in Hybrid after work whether or not i climatize. it's been in the 30sºF here.

I also have EI at start up. The pattern is the reverse what I have. But I have the same, I don't think your wife's key has something to do with it if the car shows your profile at start up.
