Hi Glenn,
Curious to hear your update on the GLE? We have been looking at 63 as well. But can't seem to find them on 21 inch wheels. All the dealers seem to be only carrying them on the matt 22 inch wheels. Not sure why.... but really wanted the "smaller" wheels. |

I came back to BMW from a GLE63S. Don't get me wrong the GLE is awesome, but it was a luxury car that was too nice to be a mean sports SUV. Mine was a 2018 (not top mounted turbos) so there was a bit of a lag that always bothered me. I personally liked the design of the dash in my car vs the new digital design. I drove the 2021 GLE, though the responsiveness was much better the muted sound (lack of pops and crackles) discouraged me. I loved the mean roar and the pops on the 2018. I was not in the market for car (though my wife doesn't believe that) I drove the X5M and decided to get the car all in the span of an hour. I even had a grille and new steering ordered for the AMG that I ended up cancelling. Something about the M made the blood shoot straight to my brain with an exhilarating rush.
The X5M Comp filled the niche for me. The interior though luxurious had that sporty mean look and the power was just right. The car ride can be adjusted from comfort grandma mode to sport plus break your tailbone mode. Yes I hate the lack of pops and crackles but overall for me it was the right decision. And yes I have few comments about the SW design, but overall it's the car for me at least for the next couple of years. You can't go wrong with either, it's 100% personal presence once you get to this class of vehicles/power range. |

Coming back to a BMW forum from a Tesla forum, I can without a doubt say I love the overall enthusiasm for vehicles shown here. No matter the brand. It's so refreshing. The Tesla forum was like a cult. Where as here it's such a more inviting atmosphere. Shows class. Glad to be a part of it!

I've put 2,000 miles on it and am loving it so far. I think I will be keeping it for a while. For me, it's the perfect blend of power and comfort. Although there were many many things about the X5M that I loved, I personally found the ride too harsh for me on the bumpy roads in my town. Mine has 21" wheels with all seasons. I wanted all seasons because I prefer not to change wheels out twice per year. I got lucky in December and found the GLE I wanted on a dealer lot and got a decent deal. Good luck! PS - will be easier for me to hold onto the GLE for a while because I just ordered my wife a 2021 X5 40i in her favorite color, Daytona Violet, so I will get to drive that once in a while. Not an X5M of course but an awesome vehicle on its own and it's a BMW. |

Nice! Congratulations!
I am curious after you wife gets her hot colored X5, and your driving them back to back what you think about it. I absolutely love the interior of the GLE I don't recall if I asked, what were you able to get off MSRP on the GLE? |

Just ordered another X5 (for my wife!)
I'm such an addict LOL...Just ordered an X5 40i in Daytona Violet for my wife as a surprise anniversary gift. She's obsessed with purple and I think it going to totally LOVE the car. Black extended merino interior with dark aluminum mesh trim. Just about every option except HK and air suspension as they aren't currently available (ugh...). Will post photos after delivery and PPF/ceramic coating. Likely not for at least 12 weeks.
Will be good to have a BMW in the driveway again and available to me once in a while for a drive. Also provides some justification for the fact that I'm on bimmerpost a few times per day still despite not currently owning a BMW LOL. Just love this forum.... |

Amazing thread, and I'm one of the many of you who is contemplating the two SUV's.
I understand all the points made, and you guys are spot on. The only question I have, why are 2021 GLE63's near the $150K++ range and 2021 X5M's closer to $110K+-? Is the MSRP on the GLE higher than the M? Seems like it's the same car (basically) with one a little more luxurious and a little less sporty. I'm coming off two X5M's, and the wife has a GLE, so very familiar with both platforms, just can't wrap my head around pricing. |

I think every other SUV ride is more comfy than X5M (MB you have, RSQ8 etc ) but in the end as a driver you find X5M as best looking and best SUV to drive like an M5...its very agile, very fast and fun to drive.

I had the Audi SQ8 before the X5M Comp and it rides much softer than the X5M and sounds as good. I didn't like the finish as well as the BMW and it takes it a little while for the HP to kick in. I wish X5M had air suspension like SQ8.
Might be worth looking at for your next car. |

You'll switch again after you get smoked at a red light by an X5M, Porsche Cayenne Turbo or RSQ8 The GLE is the slowest of the bunch of super SUVs.
