Suggestions for iDrive Programmable Memory Buttons

All these buttons and no where to go with them!

I've programmed the first one to switch to CarPlay but everything else I can think of can be completed by asking the personal assistant to handle it. This process can be a bit hit-or-miss but it's pretty decent.

Curious to see what you guys have programmed in. Might get a few ideas to make better use of the programmable memory.

I added ‘sync’ for the temperature since my wife ALWAYS makes it warmer when she’s in the passenger seat. I also made one for CarPlay and another for the surround effect on the B&W since I was having trouble deciding which setup worked best and found different types of music do require some changes to get the best sound.

I might add a couple speed dials in there, that's a really good idea!

I'm not familiar with BPM though

This!

I hate having to dig for the sync button in the menu!

Maybe TPM? Tire Pressure Monitor? Thought about that one myself but voice control does ok for that right now for me.

Wish the sync button was on the HVAC controls like in most cars but this is a decent second option.

Could be. That's a good thing to have. I actually used to keep that on my programmable in my F10

There used to be a dedicated sync button labeled "ALL" on the F series but with the whole minimalist thing, they took that away.

But this alternative that you have going is fantastic so no complaints!

Alternatively, "Synch Climate" is a verbal command that actually works.

Sorry, it is one of Sirius Channels. BPM. I just wanted to go to it directly on the top of Sirius Presets: You can save presets of XM/FM/AM/etc, just get to list them (1 button for all, more buttons left for other usage) and pick or go direct to one of them (using individual buttons, keep all busy/programmed)! List shows on heads up display and you can pick one of them on steering wheel by using right hand side dial!

BMW Genius Dealer guy showed me all around in a zoom call post delivery!

Ah okay!

Actually don't really use Sirius myself (was trying to give away my free trial but it's non-transferable unfortunately).

I used to keep a few radio stations preset as well in the past but honestly I just don't listen to radio anymore. Mostly podcasts, audiobooks, or Apple Music.

Really wish I could assign Audible or Podcast from CarPlay onto the keys as this would be convenient as hell personally

How do you set up a button for CarPlay? I went to the CarPlay screen by pressing the CarPlay icon at the top of the idrive Home Screen, and when I tried to set a button, it said this option wasn’t available.

go into the COM setting. while the connected CarPlay phone is highlighted, set the button.

that's the furthest I could go. I was hoping to be able to program the Music app or my favorite Music folder onto one of the buttons but couldn't.

I did mine a bit differently.

Apps > highlight CarPlay > save

This takes into whatever your last accessed item in CarPlay was instead of the phone app

Thanks. I wasn’t understanding how the buttons worked. I thought it just saved screens, but it seems like they are similar to going through the menus to highlight something, and then instead of pressing the controller to actually perform the action highlighted, you just press the memory button, which does it all in one step.

Right, kind of weird. IIRC, you highlight the selection of CarPlay in the menu and then save that. When you hit the memory button I guess it acts like it’s selecting the menu option you were highlighting. Only way I could think to describe it.

So a little update on what I programmed in so far:

1. CarPlay
2. TPMS
3. Sync
4. Car menu
5. Sound

The reason I set #4 is we have a dedicated key for the other menus right above the iDrive controller (Nav, Apps, etc.) but nothing for the Car menu. Plus I find myself going into the Car menu quite a bit right now as I fiddle with settings so this is a bit more convenient than Home > scroll to Car > enter

Guess I never got to this section of the owners manual LOL. We're talking the "radio preset" buttons right? Apparently, they can be used to perform other functions. who'd a thunk it.

gonna have to pull out the manual. i'm trying to think how this would work and have no idea LOL.
