you get a sporty looking steering wheel and the M adaptive suspension. All the other changes are aesthetic. If you're planning on getting the air suspension, then all of the M package changes you get are merely aesthetic since the air suspension replaces the M adaptive suspension.
Personally, I like spending more money on the interior, since that's where I spend most of my time. it comes down to what you prefer. I also don't believe the M adaptive suspension is any dramatic upgrade to the standard suspension for the price of the package. |

I thought about it for my X6, but decided it wasn’t worth the money for me.
Likes: -The visual differences on the front (mainly moving the fog lights up under the head lights) -Larger brakes Dislikes: - Wheels. I like the look of the standard wide V spokes over the thin straight spoke M wheels. I was staying with the 20” wheels for comfort, and because I didn’t want a staggered tire setup. The rest of the stuff didn’t interest me. My feeling is if you want a M, buy a M, not a standard car with some badges. Last edited by Dwillbimmer; 03-02-2021 at 04:37 PM.. |

Usefulness and worth are going to be in the eye of the beholder. I have no interest in going off-road in my X5 and appreciate the performance, handling dynamics and appearance of the M package. I've owned several M3s and all my BMW SAVs have been either MSport or M. Currently have a M50i an love it. I personally love the visual appeal of the M package on the car.
I went with the M for: Front and rear bumper/fascia appearance and aerodynamics Shadowline trim - hate chrome Option to get 21"/22" wheels M Sport suspension with ability to get DHP Body color wheels arches Paint choices - ended up with Carbon Black but thought I wanted Tanzanite blue, both are M Sport colors only. I do like the classic Space Grey that you can only get on XLine (wife had a 3 series in that previously) Upgraded M brakes M Sport steering wheel - hate the non-sport wheel Access to the V8 engine - mine is a 2020 and V8 is only available in the M50i, 2019 you could a V8 in the 50i with or without M Sport

It's mostly a cosmetic thing.
The standard X-line front bumper doesn't do it for me. It's like a half hearted attempt to mimic big air dams but stay luxurious. I'd rather it just go one way. On my old X3, the standard look was fine. It looked semi-rugged, which fit a SUV. Also, that car's M-sport bumper looked 80% done so I just went with the base. I love the front bumper on the M-sport on the X5. That, plus the shadowline trim, the M-brakes, and the M-steering wheel (very comfy) are what made it worth it for me. I actually don't like the side sills as they get in the way when getting out of the car. I'm ambivalent about the colored wheel arches as I plan on getting mud guards. It's purely a looks thing. I thought the looks upgrade was worth the price. Not everyone will think so. |

Is an X5 worth it?
Do I need to wear underwear today? Is it ok to wear socks with sandals? These are questions only you can answer. You do you. |

Another one of those things. I have on my car. But not worth it, since I also have DHP. So no benefits. However, the price is adjusted when you add DHP after M Sport. I originally thought my better handing was due to the M Sport, but then realized it was because I had DHP. But if you are going to own an X5 vs lease. The M Sport (and 3rd row seat) have good resale value.

No, it's not useful at all, it's purely aesthetics. On the 45e where the Air suspension is standard, it was a tough sell to spend $5k on cosmetics when the 20" wheel upgrade on the xLine was $600. Ultimately decided against it and am planning to powder coat the 20" xLine wheels black for my much more reasonable cosmetic upgrade.
I also have a 3 and a 5 year old that will be destroying the back seat, so Sensatec was preferred over leather, rendering the leather upgrade in the M Sport package a downgrade for us. YMMV. |

M Sport package bashing here is real. Every owner has different aesthetic tastes and whether it's worth it is up to you to decide.
But you need to logically break down and compare the actual package costs to understand the value: Of the $5750 ZMP M Sport package, MA Veransca Leather ($1450) and $1050 ZCV Convenience Package ($1050) are included = $3200 actual cost of ZMP. With $3200 you're getting: - Standard 20" wheels (for xLine you'll need to add $600) - 2VF Adaptive M Suspension - 710 M Steering wheel - 715 M Aerodynamic kit (significant amount of kit that's in body color) - 760 Shadowline exterior trim - 3MC High-gloss Shadowline roof rails Which is actually a pretty deal for the ZMP portion of the package. Look, if you're shopping xLine and adding at least the following options that are include with ZMP: - $1050 ZCV Convenience Package - $1450 MA Vernasca leather - $600 1SF Style 738 20" V-Spoke Total: $3100 You've just added $3100 in options. Difference between ZMP ($5750) and ZCV + MA + 1SF ($3100) = $2600 difference The $2600 addition for ZMP was worth it for me for the M Aerodynamic kit aesthetics - body color M sport style front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, wheel arches and standard 20" wheels. Optioning ZMP has nothing to do with as another member stated earlier about "wanting a M". xLine trim was a non-starter for me and I'm not bashing xLine owners. PS - my F15 was a xLine as I didn't care for the F15 M Sport package.

Worth it for the aesthetics alone but its a totally personal choice.
These cars just look very basic without it. Its almost as if the designers designed the car with the M package looks, and then actively took bits away to justify hiking the price for the M package that should be standard. If you can look at the non-M sport and be okay with it, you've saved yourself a few grand. I couldn't personally. |

my wife has leased bimmers for 13 years. I convinced her to go M Sport with her latest '20 G30, and she loves it not only for its aggressive looks but even its slight performance improvement. she even regrets not getting the blue calipers that I wanted her to get.

Worth it to me, for the reasons outlined here, x2 40i X5s. "Worth it" to you is, also noted, a personal decision.

I wish I had gotten the m sport. Looks so much better than the x line for my taste. The problem is that I was in a bit of a rush to get out of my old car and the only m sport vehicles my local dealer had were fully loaded and the MSRP for an m sport was $15k more than the x line and they weren't willing to budge on price. By now I've spent so much on my car (window tint, clear bra, invisible hitch) I don't want to start over with a new one. But when I finally need a new car it will be an M sport.

I personally like the aesthetics of the M pkg over the non. I think it makes it look a lot more aggressive.

It's all personal taste when it comes to how you want your X5 to look. For me the xLine wasn't a consideration, as I was only interested in the msport package. For those that don't care for the aesthetics of it, xLine should do just fine.

To some degree, it would be the same as asking if Tanzanite Blue Metallic paint is useful. Probably not, but to some people it's a must have and makes the SAV special to them... |
