Saturday afternoon (May 6th) I have taken delivery of my new 2024 X5M LCI, MBB with SS interior.
My build spec can be found here https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1999183

Here are my first impressions after driving her for about 100 miles along with some small issues I have encountered so far.

My overall impression is that this is, by far, the best car I have ever bought and owned (and the list is long). As a whole package I really think think this is one of the ultimate daily, given my personal situation (3 kids etc...). At the same time I also think it will delivery plenty of fun, spirited drives, enough to not make me want to get a sports
car for a while.

But here are some more detailed thoughts. Coming off a 2018 F85 which I traded-in for the F95, I am heavily going to compare the 2 cars. Keep in mind that I have never driven or rode in a F95 before.

As much as I enjoyed my F85 and at the time really though it was a great daily and had lots of fun driving it, it almost cannot be compared to this new LCI. I bought the F85 used, with low miles and where the previous owner didn't really take the best care of the car, and so obviously the experience is not the same, but still this F95 feels like a completely different vehicle, superior in every single category.
The F85 in comparison feels old and outdated, slower, less comfortable ride, and yes at times a bit flimsy in terms of build [...]
Great write up !!
Btw did u get a chance to pop the hood ? The engine cover looks different from the pics online. Was wondering if it was only me.

Here are picture of the trunk area. Strangely it looks a bit different from the video reviews that are popping up and also bummer there are really no nets or default way to secure items.

Thank you! U didn’t realise the engine cover in the reviews was an add on.. I really do wish the trunk was netted to keep things from flying back there.. I do appreciate all the space tho, this is my first bmw, first suv.. 😂.. coming from my C class, space was so limited in the trunk

I’m surprised you don’t even have the stripes on the floor of your trunk. Why has BMW gone this way ?

I though the same exact thing when I opened the trunk when I was taking delivery, especially since the videos from the press release clearly shows a different trunk. The stripes I can live without, but the little nets on the side I actually use the in the past to store a couple of microfibers and a bottle of quick detail and window cleaner when in a pinch.

At least there are those anchors which I guess one can put a net and the grocery bag hooks.

Anything new always feels good, but I don’t agree that F85 feels outdated, I have F85 and X7 loaded with options, in terms of luxury both in same level, F85 has better quality leather…

Also F95 more harsher ride, while F85 much more smoother thanks to air suspension.

I do agree on the leather, the F85 seemed like it was a bit better when new. As I stated in my post, my F85 was bought used and the previous owner could have definitely kept the car in better conditions. Yes a new car will always feel good, but just stepping inside the LCI, for me, feels quite a bit exclusive and M like. Starting from the seat which have a different support and feel, bigger side bolsters and, for me at least, were easier to find a comfortable seat position. Then from the new carbon shifters, to center console (carbon fiber vs plastic in the F85) it is definitely a step up. Not sure which X7 model you have but maybe those are a bit closer in overall luxury. Also a new base model X7 is almost as much as the highest F85 for sale rn, where as the LCI X5M is almost double the price of an X7.

Ride quality. We will need people that have owned the pre-LCI to give a comparison review, but BMW did say that they revised the suspension for the LCI, so I wouldn't be surprised that it is indeed smoother than the pre-LCI. I owned my F85 for almost 2 years and I can personally tell you that the F95 (LCI) rides way better than the F85 did. Overall smoother, less jarring, composed and absorb bumps much better with less bounce and loud thunk.
I have been dropping my kid to school every morning for 2 years now, which has 2 pretty substantial speed bumps, and the F85 would have that strange noise and bounce back from the air suspension. Not bad, but just not very smooth with a lot more rebound when the rear clears it. The LCI is much smoother over the bump with way less body movement and can be felt a lot less inside the cabin.

Again please I am not a car reviewer or expert, this is all from my personal experience and from having bought about 10 car in the last 10 years. For me best everyday/sporty ride out of the box that I have bought, with the F80 in close second, albeit more on the sporty side.

For your issue regarding the vehicle locking and unlocking constantly when you are near it. You want to turn off comfort access, go to door/vehicle access settings page, and go to comfort access and uncheck both boxes.

I suggest keeping it off for anyone that spends time in their garage or around their car so it is not constantly beeping.

Congratulations on your new car! The MBB and black wheels combo looks great. I have a quick question about the wheels: are the 22-inch wheels thin and vulnerable, or are they sturdy enough to withstand regular use?

They are OEM forged (not cast) wheels, should be as good as it gets.

(The 818M wheels are forged, the other combinations are not, they were originally released for the competition model only)

Thank you for your response, especially the information about the forged wheels is greatly appreciated! We were initially considering the 21-inch wheels (Style 808M) but were concerned about their durability.

Regarding the 22-inch wheels, we are curious about how they feel while driving. Do you experience any additional road noise with them? Also, are they more susceptible to damage? We live in Pennsylvania where the roads can be quite rough and sometimes potholes appear unexpectedly. Our sales representative expressed concern about the 22-inch wheels, so we wanted to get your thoughts.

I’m terms of road noise I doubt there will be much difference. The 22 inch option still comes with the same size in the front (21 inches) and seems like the same low profile tire size, so road noise will be similar. Honestly can’t really hear too much exterior noise and the cabin is relatively quiet, the fake engine sound being the predominant noise. No complaints there.
Can’t really comment vs the 21 inches option as I have not driven one, but looks wise I really think the 818 look very good and so do the 809. I don’t think I have ever seen one with the 21 808 wheels, but from the pictures it almost makes it look dated as I believe those were available in the F series.

Durability? Hard to tell. Also depends on how one drives I suppose. Doing 100mph over a pothole is probably going to damage any wheel.

Surprised to hear this. I live on a dirt road which is often in a terrible state and have driven on many second-rate roads around the countryside. I've not experienced any issues and haven't heard of any issues from others

Finally got the car back, was at my detailer for a full front PPF and full exterior and interior ceramic coating. Hard to tell from the pictures, but the MBB pops even more now and really like the new shine from Ceramic Pro Ion. Now need to find time to get some proper pictures.

That’s very helpful. We test drove an X6M and it was pretty quiet during the cruise. Our sales also mentioned that we would feel better when driving an X5M.

Congrats on the new X5M. it looks great!

I have a question for you. Does the key less entry work on all 4 doors plus trunk or just the 2 front doors plus trunk?

Thanks

Thanks!

The keyless has a setting to either open the driver door only or all doors. I set mine to all doors. The trunk I believe opens in both setttings but has its own setup so that you can choose to open the top part only or both. Also has settings on what to open when using the key or easy access (foot unlock).

So my current setup is that I have the digital key plus, so I no longer use my physical key. I just approach the vehicle and as long as I have my phone/watch I can unlock and drive away. Been flawless so far although I keep thinking I should probably carry the credit card key with me in case my phone dies, breaks or anything happpens to it.
