LCI - Seat ventilation noise

So finally getting much warmer here and have been playing with the seat ventilation. When I set it to the highest speed the fans noise is quite loud and to me feels like a high pitch whistle coming from the driver's seat. Doesn't seem that the passenger makes the same noise, then again haven't sat in it.

So asking other members with LCI or pre-LCI, do you hear a high pitch, quite annoying whistle from the seat ventilation?

This is on an 24 X5M btw, not that it should matter as I am assuming the fans are all the same across X5's

I’m having a similar issue, but when I lean back into the seat, I can actually hear the fan rubbing on something

Oh right I remember seeing your post now! Ok glad I am not the only one but not glad that such a basic feature now should have issues. Will try leaning next time I am driving and see if I can hear that too.

Vaguely remember that you were going to talk to the SA when you bring the car in, if so keep us (me) posted

can someone explain to me when I have seat heating/colling on setting 1-2 the symbol doesnt show next to the temperatur .. in setting 3-4 it shows up? is it even on in 1-2?

is this because of automatic setting and it only turns on if it actually "needs" to cool or heat?

Yes. That's exactly what is happening in auto mode. It will look at the ambient temperature outside, the current measured temperature inside, etc. and determine if it thinks you need seat heating or cooling. You can adjust the thresholds (eg, how much weight is put on the factors) with the settings - higher numbers kick in sooner. It's not like the older systems where you set explicit temperature targets.

I think "Very High" for any of the settings will force it on regardless, but all of the other ones are relative.

Every vehicle I've owned with ventilated or a/c seats is loud on the highest setting and much more prominent while stopped. It's not as noticeable while driving with my terrible hearing.

Hi LukasAT,

Sure, A heat recovery system works (also called HRV or MVHR) via a heat recovery ventilation unit which is usually located in the attic, roof space, or plant room of a building. Rather than just extracting air and replacing it with air from outside, a heat recovery system draws the heat from the extracted air and passes it to the air which is being filtered in from outside. read more.

Seems normal for the higher noise in BMW’s based on my experience. Sadly even with the noise the cooling is minimal.

My AMG doesn’t make noise and the cooling is about the same as the X5MC. My other vehicles cool much better than the BMW and it’s hard to discern any noise. Just my opinion.
