HUD glare

Hi, my x5 got the recall update last week and since then there is a bad glare on the windshield. It shows a box around a box and it's distracting to drive when sunny. Has anyone else experienced this? I didn't have this problem before. Dealer said it's normal but I don't think it is. Thanks

it’s more of a reflection than glare, which will depend on light angles, etc. it’s glass, and there’s no anti-reflection coating on it, but what do you mean you didn’t have it before? before what (a windshield replacement)?

If it is a new phenomena…and you wrote that you took it in for a recall…have you checked to see if the BRIGHTNESS level changed after the “recall work”? If not, pull up the HUD in iDrive and see if dialing down the brightness level will help with the reflection you are seeing on the windshield.

(See instructions below from the owners manual)

the brightness setting doesn’t apply as it’s not what’s on the screen that’s bothering him. it’s the reflection of the HUD components reflecting off the dashboard onto the inside mirror

I was just throwing a log on the fire…in case that the reflection was from the HUD display being turned all the way up. It’s kind of hard to tell if the reflection is being created from above or below. Also kind of weird that it wasn’t noticed before but now it is.

Is the reflection only visible when parked as in the pic with the light colored garage door down? Is the reflection still visible when driving down the street in another direction when there’s no sun reflecting on the glass?

I wonder if it could be a temporary phenomena…based on the position of the sun at a specific time the OP is in the vehicle. Similar to “Manhattanhenge“ & “Chicagohenge” where the sun lines up with the avenues/streets in NY & Chicago on specific dates…but then is gone as the position of the sun changes after a day or two.

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps it's very specific lighting conditions and point of view causing the glare in the pic posted by the OP.

If that glare is persistent no matter the lighting conditions, maybe there's some sort of cleaning product residue smeared on the HUD projector screen...?
