Where can I source a replacement knob?
My wife's 2024 X5 40i LCI is less than a month old and I went to install the crystal volume/power button for the radio this afternoon and inadvertently cracked/broke the outer volume knob ring.
I called two nearby BMW parts departments and both said they do not sell the volume knob ring individually and I would have to replace the entire panel (~$1000). This is ridiculous for part that probably only costs 5-15 dollars retail and pennies to manufacture. My dealer is opening a ticket with BMW USA but they didn't give me the warm and fuzzies that it would do any good. Does anyone know where I can source a replacement ring for a reasonable price? Picture of broken part below... Thanks! I glued it back together and worst case, I guess I'll try to fill and respray this one. Last edited by 5ive7even; 03-06-2024 at 03:53 PM.. |

Unfortunately your dealer is correct and it seems it is only available as part of the unit. There are some used ones on eBay that will be a lot less expensive than going through a dealer. Maybe getting off those and pop the ring off.

Thanks. I did look on ebay and see quite a few control modules under $100 but they are for G05 earlier years (e.g. 2020+). Do you know if the volume ring is the same size between the earlier G05s and the LCI?

I just can't believe there is nothing available online as a replacement part. I even looked on Aliexpress and Alibaba. |

This will expand your search online for a whole replacement unit…or perhaps you can find the knob by itself. EDIT: For example…if #2 is the knob you are referring to…when you look up that unit to get the 11 digit BMW part number for what I assume you have is the glass knob…when you click on that 11 digit part number the g05 X5, g06 X6, and g-7 X7 all use the same unit…those the same knob.

Thanks for the offer! I ended up ordering a used panel on ebay. Not sure if the knob from the older panel will fit or not so I will reach out to you if I get it and it doesn't work out.

While I wait for the replacement module/knob to arrive (from UK to US), my son who is majoring in Mechanical Engineering designed this in SolidWorks and we 3d printed for fun. Turned out really nice and will use it if the one I ordered isn't a direct fit. Here's a pic of the prototype next to the original.
