Look how long the order delays are now with many options. I can imagine it will be a long time from when the M50i is introduced and it’s build time for the top options for delivery.

I am coming from a 505 HP sedan. I tested the Crossover version. It was just too sporty. I really don’t like to lose hp and torque but i find the 50i plenty of pick up and go. Probably would have like a little tighter steering but then again we wanted something with power but also a nice balanced ride. We did get the M sport. I honestly can’t imagine what an M version putting this well over the V8 will be maybe add an electronic boost but it will be something but not what I was looking for. Plenty of Sport Crossovers out there and now in mid-size an M would be getting the kids to church on time for sure. All I picture is my dogs faces planted in the back window on a launch.

I think the full M version of the x5 will be an overkill. I posted it in x3M thread - that the full M treatment for SUVs are too much.
I'm willing to live with all the inconveniences of M car if i'm able to track it and use all of its performance. But SUVs are not allowed on tracks and utilizing the teeth shattering rough suspension, 7.5K RPM screaming 600 HP engine on the street is impossible.

M cars a finicky to live with. I do not want to deal with it on an SUV

Extra cooling radiator under the bumper - requires extra care not to puncture. It keeps you from overheating on the track but not needed on the street.
Super stiff hardcore suspension designed for cornering at the limit is really hard to live with.
Super low profile R compound tires - are rough on wet and cold roads with potholes - list goes on...

So therefore M performance version of X5 M50 is more than enough for people looking to buy loaded M pack SUV.
For those looking for off road pack and x-line - the time to buy is now - X5 50 - is it the last V8 x line SUV?

Very good perspective. I agree, the last vehicle I am going to track is a performance/luxury SUV. These are for everyday real world use to have fun and enjoyment. Even a M5 would be a compromised track vehicle. A real honest track car is a horrible car to drive on public streets. Even now you would need to get off public roads and on a closed track to explore the limits of the 50i M-Sport.

I am curious. Why is the limit 155 mph. On a V8. I am not going to ever go that fast but the Alfa QV limits out at 191. Is this because of the way it is tuned or can it really only got 155. Someone at Audi said that all us cars are limited to 155. I thought that was weird since folks track certain series and have to assume that they reach that max.

Most electronic speed limiter settings have more to do with whatever the speed rating is on the tires that it comes with from the factory. The X50i will go faster than 155 if the limiter were removed or raised. I've seen it and felt it subtly intervene itself into the proceedings and then gently swing back and forth between 158 and 162. Level, straight road. Decent acceleration was still obviously happening when it kicked in, but it's kind of hard to tell how much more it would have accelerated before it was aero-limited. I got the impression that it would have been good for mid to upper 160's no problem (real speed), maybe more, but anything past that I really couldn't tell. Note that speedo's are normally calibrated to read 3 or 4% over, so 161 plus or minus a couple indicated on the speedo was totally consistent and expected with a limiter of 155.

155 mph is the speed limit agreed upon by German manufacturers to satisfy green party in Germany. To prevent WOT on the autobahn. Its been like this for the past 20 plus years. audi, MB and BMW are all like that.
Porsche and Italians are not participating. So if you see Porsche or Maserati on the autobahn. Move over.

BMW has driving m pack on some cars where they open it up to 177 mph. Mostly on m cars. X3m will be the first SUV to have this pack available

In us we get all season tires on most cars that reduces speed limit to 130. You need to order summer performance tires to get option 840. To go back to German 155

Hi all,

Getting ready for new SUV beginning of the year, selling my V8 4Runner.The 2 candidates are
the BMW X5 & the Benz GLE. Very interested in the new M50i coming.
I love the N63TU in my 650i M coupe. Will be even hotter in the new version.

One thing I find disappointing about the current G05 is the color choices. One of the skimpiest I've seen. No silver or light gray of any type is offered. Only 7 choices and 4 are black or white!! I will never buy black again & personally dislike white. The arctic gray is almost black as well. Don't care for the Sunstone. Would leave only blue which I don't really want.

I hope they expand the selection for 2020 as this would be a dealbreaker.

They did announce more color options starting around April 2019 (there is a thread somewhere here about this).

You can always pony up the cash for a custom order and pick a different color. That's what I ended up doing after looking at the colors in person. Some of them are nice (i.e. carbon black) if you have the patience to properly detail it all the time. My wife wanted something different. Although the nominal amount for special ordering a different color is high, it is like 5% of the total cost of the car.

One of the explanations for color limitations was the ACC. reflections were messing up with sensors. Since BMW is one of the first companies to offer Assisted driving - i would take that over colors. Audi A8 was turned off by regulations - all this stuff is too new and will sort itself out.

New colors are coming in April and in August. There are threads on new leather interior and new options - just search

You can also Try for individual color with your dealer - see if you get approved.

Better off - drive the new x5 50 - all will be forgotten - it is that good.

Thanks for the info. Kind of rubs be the wrong way to have to spend like 4K on a custom color. All I would like is a nice silver or graphite gray!

Thanks -I will search the forum on the upcoming colors, may solve it for me.
I frankly don't buy the theory of the ACC. If they offer white & black
that is the bookends of the color spectrum, should be able to offer silver or light gray.
And definitely would wait on the M50i !!

You don’t buy “The ultimate driving machine” to allow it to drive itself.
Give me some decent colors and save the assisted driving for those who live in assisted living.

Pretty much. The GLE has the fake tailpipe openings and sounds anemic.

Yeah that two week drive really justifies the other 51 weeks.

As luck would have it, I was told after I made the suggestion that the color we wanted is not possible to get for "technical reasons".

I am waiting for a list of actually possible choices and will try to make the argument with them to try and get the color we actually wanted, and that my wife is in love with, which is marina bay blue (offered for M5s).

If they are willing to do other special paints with all the inconveniences for the production line that is attached to this process, I see no "technical reasons" why they can't do one of their other colors. I can wait the extra few days needed for them to ship some paint over the atlantic.

If they want to keep it as an M exclusive color, they should just tell me that and not some BS.
