Yea, my 911 fogs are so low that they really feel like running lights and light up the far sides of the road more than anything. Because of this, not nearly as bright or useful as the BMW. BMW has better/more advanced lighting system in general. The Laser lights are next level good but the basic X5 lighting system is very impressive. BMW knows how to do proper lighting in how they focus their lenses.

I really don't like that Benz & Audi have done away with them.
My 2017 Q7 still has them and I would be surprised if they are gone on the current MY19.

They are just part of the main light housing but you can still turn them on. Coverage is pretty good as well. Heck, my Q7 even has two separate REAR fog lights - something you don't see that often anymore..

Maybe it's me but I don't consider lights in the actual light housing to be fogs. For one they are too high off the ground. 2nd what they throw out will get mixed with the standard headlights. And I personally just like the added look of LED fogs.

The funny thing is that on the Q7, many people think that the round sensors on the bottom of the front bumper are the fogs, so from an appearance POV, you can argue they are still there - LOL..

https://www.audiusa.com/models/audi-q7

You have to consider as well that on an SUV, a part of the "height advantage" of lower fogs is already sacrificed. Technically, lower fogs certainly provide better light right in front of your vehicle - but how much of that area can you actually see while driving? It basically illuminates a dead angle...

Those are the cornering lights which can be turned on while driving normally. My SQ5 has the same thing and they most certainly are not fog lights. If you corner with them on there are no cornering lights which you can verify

Interesting.

I have to say though that they do a good job in increasing the light pattern.

All they do is illuminate the sides not really the same as fog lights since they only shine maybe 7ft in front of the car.

I want to add that they are bright and ideal for rual country road driving. They have some real lume. The X5 led fog lights are much brighter than my wife’s old Jeep Cherokees headlights. I tested just the fog lights and I could easily drive at night at speeds below 35mph. The beam pattern is a wide 180 degree radius almost like cornering lights.
I wish the fogs would come on with “auto” lighting mode.

Agreed, I was referring to the Audi ones which are cornering lights that can be in an 'always on' mode. BMW's fog lights work as intended and do illuminate quite a bit especially on the sides

No, M cars usually don't offer fog lights, M2/3/4/5 & X3/4/6M also have 0 fog lights to make room for bigger intakes so I'm willing to bet this X5M will not either

That’s what I thought, I went over a M5C at my dealer and the amount of radiators upfront is shocking. I was just hoping with the larger front of the X5M, BMW would have squeezed additional lighting in somewhere. Even a LED focused strip at the top of the lower intake. Porsche seems to always find room on the 911. I didn’t know the fog light delete was a BMW M trend.

Those extra radiators are concerning. Super boost turbo engines run hot so they add additional oil coolers. On last M3 the one was right under the bumper. Major PITA

First thing some people did is to buy metal grids to protect them. Turner Motorsport have one to be installed on the car before delivery.
Horror stories about pebbles from the street or curbs puncturing those radiators and all oil leaking out of the engine and insurance not covering them on M3 board.
Hope SUVs don't have those right under the bumper.

This is what I found on the M5C with a radiator laying horizontal and as low as it could be placed right at the front. It is almost a road debris magnet. I have to clean out my front radiators every year in my 911 C4S. They seem to suck in just about everything being that low and I only drive it in the summer in nice weather. I had to rig up a special hose attachment to my shopvac just for this. On the X5M and being a SAV, I hope some thought was given to the “Activity” design element in its radiator placement. We will find out soon enough.

M5 Comp? There's no M5 CS. There's no active grill on the X5M, its a normal always open grill like in previous years.

I think it had to do with their placement vs the revised model

Yea, typo M5 "c". My spell checker was use to seeing me type C4S and has now adopted some incorrect changes. I have to go back and correct the spell checker and miss some of these.

I think the X7 M50i might still ride well as it retains its two-axle air suspension.

So, You are thinking it is not the same as M suspension on our X5 50 model?
I want to see those differences in detail.

Call me crazy but I was pleased to see the M50i will be offered with optional 2 axle air susp. that;s what I plan to order. I want the new engine but don't want super stiff unforgiving suspension. I am in FL and there's no twisty mountains to conquer here, yet!
