You're not causing me distress. You just fail to realize that "soft" features are offered by everyone in this price segment. The new 2021 F150 has front seats that fully recline like a bed!

I'm not saying it's a make or break deal, clearly many people who purchase these vehicles are just buying the badge and may not care or have the money to get them. But if you want to be the market leader you have to offer these types of options or else you will get left behind by your competitors.

I have the same X5 M50i on order as you. So I know what it's capable of or else I wouldn't have bought it. My comment still stands.

Don't all of these manufacturers have the same suppliers for this stuff? like I know BMW doesn't make their own self driving tech, its like from Delphi or other companies that supply to all of these oems. So then how come other manufacturers all still have these options available and only BMW has cut back? or has this same thing affected other brands as well?

^ They may not sell the volume that BMW does. Many of the options are still available in other countries also. We all assume, likely based on a BMW blog that they are missing due to Covid, it could be it was just a marketing decision.

Yes, they do. The self driving tech itself is powered by Intel/Mobileye. Then yes, they will use suppliers like Delphi for the integration.

Feels like they are doing this as a cost-cutting move in my opinion. COVID has caused factory costs to go up while auto demand has gone down. As a result, BMW seems to be removing features instead of increasing price.

I agree. I perceive these changes as cost cutting more than anything. I won't debate if they are soft or female or whatever. Just cutting corners more than anything. And I do agree at a certain price point, where M50i's can top 100k, you should be able to get whatever luxury item you would like.

it may be cost cutting but i dont see the strategy out here for them to offer these options for years and all of a sudden cut back while other brands are still offering them. the mid size luxury suv market is the hottest, most competitive segment there is. if these changes arent because of supply chain covid19 related issues, I doubt many of us wouldn't switch over to another brand that offers it because lets be honest, they're all about the same except for the badge. Except the genesis lol

Yep, exactly. They've been offering soft close as an option since the E70 generation so they will have to bring it back at some point or else they will start to fall behind their competitors.

I will still buy BMW regardless because of the way it drives and I'm not ready to step up to a P-car, but not everyone is like that.

I came from a 2019 Cayenne. Traded it on the '21 M50i that I am currently driving and can tell you that the M50i is a superior vehicle in every way that I can think of. Cayennes are really overpriced as are all Porsches.

BMW can change options and it's their prerogative, no problem with that. The problem is they need to tell their client that they are making changes and let the client decide whether to pay more to keep something beforehand.

Who knows where else they are cutting corners (especially things that you cannot see). X5/6s are not run-off-the-mill vehicles, they are priced accordingly, the owners of these luxury vehicles have-and-expect higher standards. BMW will be wise not to mess with these cohort.

^^^^30 years of 911’s and I will second that. I currently only have classic air cooled 911’s. Traded my last C4S for the excellent M2 Competition.

I want all the little boxes to be available in my $100k luxury truck. I may not check them all (although I did on the last one), but I want them to be there. I did note that of the "luxury SUV segment," only Audi still has night vision available, and not across the lineup. Sign of the times I guess, but Audi and MB do retain the soft close doors, and (mostly) options for premium sound systems for (most) models. Porsche has always offered almost anything, individually, for a price (oh, you want tires with that?). RR is somewhat limited, but since in-car electronics, and electricity in general, is still fairly new to the British automotive industry, to be expected. BMW Is certainly the bottom of the heap for option variety now.

Interesting, I've wanted a P-car for so long but a buddy of mine and my service manager keep talking me out of the brand due to their own horror stories and the maintenance costs.

That's what I love about BMW, you get a vehicle that drives really well, can load it up with nice tech, and most of the options are reasonably priced (unlike Porsche). Seems like we're finding new things that are cut from the '21 model year every other week on this forum which concerns me a little and is irritating, but I'm ready for something new, so I don't want to wait and see what they change for '22.

Has anyone with a 2021 talked with BMW on the issue? Looks like 2020 have an actual alcantara moonroof cover.

Doubt that BMWNA will rectify the issue. For owners who have vehicles on order with option 776 ($650) and haven't taken delivery, I'd press your dealer for a additional discount given the material reduction.

BMW and BMWNA has always had spotty communication updates on model year and content changes. It's unfortunate but it's also great that enthusiast Bimmer forums, members and individual dealer representatives have taken up to sharing and tracking changes.

We knew the 2021 models were being penalized before Covid. This pushed many of us looking for fully optioned 2020 models.
The extent of the cut backs were even more than first disclosed. What BMW did was to add to these cuts and using Covid as a plausible excuse. BMW is screwing their 2021 model year customers. On the forum we even advised at the time that 2021 is not the model year to buy a G05/G07.

Fast forward to 2022: Imagine if all the top options do come back for 2022 like nigh vision, ambient air, Rear Entertainment, etc... These are huge options in the top end of the luxury market. Residual values of 2020 and 2022 will be notably higher and more desirable. 2021 models will take a big hit. BMW isnt even discounting the reduced 2021 models without basic features like soft close doors, music hard drive, etc.... Its a strait up, screw you to your face from BMW and they want you to think its not happening.

I agree. These big companies think they can just walk all over the consumer because most buyers don't know how BMW is screwing them over. It's only those people who are very familiar with BMW that know and see what they're doing.
I wonder if there is any recourse for the consumer to file a law suit or perhaps get them on some sort of Fair trade/False Advertising violation. These big companies could give a "Rats Ass" about the consumer.

Air cooled 911s, great stuff to have now, so cool and likely holding value if not appreciating.
I have heard that the M2 Comp is a great car, sounds like you have been around the block with sports cars and know the ropes. Enjoy!
