We always ask if we can bring our dog if we are going to stay with family. especially if its something a decent distance away and we arent going to be able to get back to him to let him out/feed him.

IMO, i wouldnt pick this fight. But, ive seen your threads before, so i know you will.
No idea what you’re talking about. You’re referring to one thread when people didn’t know what they were talking about.

So yeah…if you read the other replies most disagree with you anyways and realize it’s a rude thing to ask someone.

I guess we are the outliers. We suggest to family that they bring their dogs when they visit. (We have 2 of our own.). Totally ok with it. Now if someone had a dog with behavioral issues, no we wouldn’t ask and no we would say ok if they asked. But no issues with reasonably behaved dogs.

Expecting someone to find a dog sitter on a holiday isn’t reasonable and dogs aren’t going to hold their piss and shit longer because it’s Christmas. So if you want them to visit and the dogs are good dogs, I’d let them bring them. They will appreciate it (dogs and in-laws).

This thread is all over the place lol.

No it's not ok to take your pet where it is not welcome.

Yes it is ok to ask if you can bring your pet.

Yes it is ok to say no.

We have friends and family where we know our pets are not welcome. We have friends and family that ask why didn't bring them if we show up without. We have friends and family that their pets are welcome in our home and we have friends and family that their pets are not allowed in our home.

Just this week we had a tell a family member that they could not bring their emotional support pit bull because it was aggressive the last time it was over. I clearly explained what would have happened had it but and injured one of my dogs. We will see if he shows this year without it. I hope so but hate he dropped the $29.99 on the vest.

That must be one of those internet-procured vests vs. a trained service animal?

Oh hell yea it is (Amazon procured) In my book there are dogs and service dogs. There is no such thing as an emotional support animal except to the one in need of support. Which means that if you have to be around the animal to function that's fine but it does not give you permission to take the damn thing anywhere more than any other animal.

Yeah agree that emotional support animals that aren’t service dogs were an invention to sell vests. They are just pets that people dress up.

Not unless they are an emotional support animal, and if it's not I'd consider it rude if someone asked because then it makes you look like the bad guy if you decline.

At first, I said no problem but the more I think about this the more it's bothering me. I've never asked anyone to bring pets over for any holiday. They normally only stay a couple hours anyways. They can't leave their dogs home alone for 4+ hours?

Would you agree to this?
I think it's okay to ask and I think it's okay to say no.

I've even said no to human visitors. As in, we're not receiving guests right now.

Nope. I’m seeing way too many nowadays in stores too. Not cool, many people have allergies.

Kids yes, pets hell no.

Last pre-Covid thanksgiving (2019) at brother and sister in laws with 2 med sized dogs their friends brought their 2 smaller dogs. The dog all knew each other and played together many times before. What could go wrong?

Something happened between the 2 “packs” while the 30 of us were eating and a dog fight erupted over food, too much commotion or who knows what, they’re dogs. A trip to the ER for a dog bite and one to Animerge for a hurt pup put a dark cloud over the rest of the dinner.

Garage List
Love my dogs, but can't understand why anyone would want to take their dogs to the shops, restaurants, parties, etc.

It's tough because boarding can be expensive and not everyone is comfortable having a pet sitter come in their home.

I would and do suck it up for family.
