Cost for damage to bumper

I'm nearing the end of my BMW X5 M50i lease, I acquired this damage in a parking garage. Sorry - I know little about cars / leases.

Should i take it to a private repair shop to get it fixed?

Should i take it to a BMW dealership to get it fixed?

Should i just ignore it and return the lease as it?

If the scratches are not too deep, I would take it to a detailer and see if the scratches can be buffed out. If they are too deep, just take it to a bodyshop.

You have to repair the damages before turning it in, or you'll get a surprised bill from BMW for the repairs.

You maybe able to GENTLY buff out some or most of that using a 50/50 mixture of laquer thinner and isopropyl alcohol.

From the Pics it looks like you scraped through the paint, take it to a bodyshop.

That will require a body shop to refinish/spray/blend. I would call your SA at your dealership and ask them which body shop they recommend. You can also search for BMW certified collision centers at https://my.bmwusa.com/ccrc

100% agreed
Don’t let BMW financial services charge you for that repair cost.
Try the detailer first and if they can’t remove the scratches, bring it to a body shop.

I would do a pre-turn in inspection and see what they say. It may be less expensive for the damage fee than taking it someplace to get fixed. I have seen a $400 max per panel but not the details on it so it may not apply.

Looking at the pictures, I agree.

You've got some serious damage there. There's gouges into the plastic, and so any fix is going to require smoothing that out. Most shops will probably want to just replace the number and paint a new one, because spot fixes don't bill out as well.

I'd let the dealer say just how much they're gonna dock you for it, and if it's less than like $2500 count it as a win, because by the time you have a shop replace that bumper and paint it, you're probably at least at that dollar amount.

Wow. 2500 to fix this? Crazy.

I'll take it to both the dealership and the bodyshop and get quotes.

I wonder if I can submit something like this to my insurance? I just hit the car against a wall in a parking lot.

You could but figure in your deductible plus you rates will likely go up.

I took it to MAACO, they gave me an estimate of $700 for this, what are your thoughts?

Maaco does a good job of painting, if that is all you need. Body work is sometimes questionable. Sanding, buffing, and decent paint is usually more and you have to ask for it. Also ask if they are going to remove the bumper cover or mask around it.

Bottom line, I have used Maaco for painting in the past. I brought them the panels to be painted, did the bodywork myself, and paid extra for sanding and buffing. I was happy with the work. You will get different results with each shop. I probably would not trust any random Maaco shop doing paint and body work on a nice car.

MAACO did a great job!

almost 3 years, and that was the only scrape. I was impressed that the garage attendants never hit it. I was the idiot who side swiped when i was parking in a friend's garage.
