Didn't know that. Thanks

Most of the time... but tonight...

Me:"Turn off heated seat"
X5: "Ok I am turning off voice navigation"

I thought one of the assistant settings allowed for shorter responses, but it doesn't seem to work.

Good point; RR software, infotainment & UI have always been horrible. When did we start using it as a benchmark for acceptable?

BMW was always better than them at UI so its sad that the defence for current BMW integration is "its as good as a Range Rover"

It isn't just that. If you are on the phone or having a conversation with someone in the car, it isn't very convenient to use voice activation.

Right. You as the owner know how it works but when I have others in my car, they don't stop talking when you are trying to give a command even though you tell them to be quiet. Then when it screws up, they laugh and that starts another whole topic Plus, if you don't use the right voice commands or are on a noisy road, etc, it constantly screws up and does something other than you told it to do. Then you are frantically trying to tell it to stop. It can be as bad as trying to press an icon on a piece of glass while bouncing along the road.

Physical buttons are still the best and the safest. Just because software is easy to modify doesn't mean it's a better way to get to the end result.

At first I thought the missing buttons would be an issue. Once I got use to the “new way” of doing things, I don’t miss the buttons. Actually between the improved voice commands and shortcuts it works much better, in my opinion.

This is true and certainly does work well, I’ve put the panoramic view as a short cut and assigned one of the spare hand gestures to it, when there’s a will there’s a way

Once you push the controller up, where are the shortcuts? On the LCD screen, right? and then you have to press the one you want while driving, right? Somehow I don't personally see that as easier than a pre-existing physical button that is already there. I know, to each their own so it is what it is.

It’s not easier but at least it is there! You push up, scroll round and push down on the desired option. I’ll be glad when the 1-8 buttons come back though.

The layout we are living with was in the BMW labs like 2-4 years back, what’s the guessing buttons are currently being tested and trialled ready for reintroduction, like VW have just done!

Fantastic. At least maybe something in this clown world can get better for once, rather than worse every year.

Damn straight. I want to drive a car, not an iPad.
