This is one of the two things that I haven't ordered in my G05 and now regret not having. The other one being IAS.

My understanding is that Soft Door close is not currently available in the US X5's, right?

Where did you hear that from? Highly unlikely that is the case. Are you sure you didn't misunderstand something and whoever said it was referring to the X5 M.

Hi, I'm talking about the 45e or 40i.. I try to do a custom Build online, the soft close door is not available unless I'm missing something.

That is correct, they haven't been available for awhile. Did you maybe mistype in your posting and instead of saying "now" you meant "not"?

This is my first vehicle with soft close doors. I like them so much that it would be very tough to get another vehicle without them.

Were you aware that the Tesla Model X has soft close and auto close on all doors. I think the driver's door closes with a pressing break too. I think that's a cool feature.

Just took delivery of my x5m50i

NO soft close close doors. Very disappointed first vehicle in the last 15 years or so that I have not had them. $100K car pretty poor for BMW. I have had 7’s M5’s X5M’s X7m50i for the last 20 + years and now here it is 2022 and we are going backwards. May be my last BMW!!
I know they don’t care, just disappointed! I asked my salesman if there was anything I wouldn’t get and he said no. He was wrong. Didn’t notice it when I picked the car up today, but when I stopped and got back in I had the open door message on my dash. Then I knew.

I know it makes you feel better to vent but probably should have done your research since soft-close doors were removed from the MY22 G05 so your salesman was correct.

Are soft close doors that big of a deal on the BMW's? I found them somewhat gimmicky in some of the vehicles i have tested.

Soft close doors.

They work great, it will just take awhile to get used to not having them after having them for 15 years! My wife and the grandkids slammed the doors anyway!

I know I should have checked, would not have made any difference would have still got the car..But since I had them on my 19 x5 40i and my 21 x7 m50i. I just assumed they would be on this one!! Still love my Dravit Grey in the sunlight!!!

Moreso that most doors I have used in my life were a good hard close, the idea of moving into soft close just seemed like one of those things I had to force myself to get used to as opposed to making things better. Just for me at least, felt like a Gimmick.

i liken soft-close doors to soft-close cabinets and drawers which require that initial hard close then get "captured" by the soft-close mechanism until fully closed. once you understand how to operate them, they're not gimmicky at all.

Eh, you really can't slam/fully close a cabinet door with soft close.

I travel a lot for work, so I feel like I'm in a different car every other week so they all just blur and by the time I get to the soft-close ones, I have to remind myself about them, again, to each is own but to me they are a "Feature" that I don't really see that much benefit in.

uh, isn't that the point (not to slam closed)? BTW, you can fully close a cabinet door with soft-close. what about the soft-close mechanism prevents it from fully closing?

soft-close doors allow you the choice to slam the vehicle doors closed or not. it just sounds like you're unwilling to change your door-closing behavior to benefit from the feature. like you said, it's not for everyone. just like soft-close toilet seats... once you get used to them, you're screwed lol

Exactly. For some a leather covered dash is a great feature to have, to others it makes no difference. I believe the cost of soft close doors on the X5 was less than mentioned leather dash. Same for drink coolers/heaters etc.

I guess that is why they are called 'luxury' features. You can live without them.

In terms of practicality/usefulness, I think I have used the self park feature only once (and that was to show my wife). The soft close though I notice gets used quite a bit. We live in a high rise condo, the parking garage spot is tight so using the soft close feature is a no brainer and likewise my neighboring car, has soft close too and they use it as well…no door dings so far. As long as we live here, I'll get a car with soft close doors.

Like you said, it depends on your use cases and situation.
