Hopefully it stays up there. The 5'er had glowing reviews until a bunch of CR subscribers complained about their cars and then CR dropped the rating from the top of the mid size luxury segment to the bottom. My G30 has been flawless so far despite being a CPO...

Everyone think getting the 50i isn't worth it? Seems like thats what a lot of the reviews I have seen have been saying...

I think it depends on what you want it to do. If you want a vehicle with a smooth engine ands strong acceleration then the 40i will more than satisfy that. If you want/ need even more power and quicker acceleration than go for the 50i. I would imagine you would be hard pressed to find a 50i owner that says it is not worth it.

The 40i is sporty. The 50i is a beast. The 40i is dynamic and feels as a BMW should and that shows even in it's most basic engine form, it's still a performance oriented SUV. The 50i is the middle finger wrapped in a velvet glove to other motorist around it. The different exhaust note between the two show how different the intentions are between the 40i vs 50i. Think of it in the Porsche world as a Carrera vs Turbo. Both are outstanding. What concerns me is the priorities of CR is vastly different than what I look for yet we both came to the same conclusion with the X5.

The 50i's have been putting smiles on my face for years back to the e32 days. Effortless and smooth acceleration. Most people don't understand the real difference between 50i and 35i, 40i until they actually drive one for a while. There is no comparison.

Well stated! This should be a pinned comment on the forum

I'm interested what the hybrid with the B58 will be like! Would that be like an X5 45 x drive e or whatever? That combo may be great for an SUV like this.

That only helps if they can actually drive it for a while without needing an engine replacement.

Idrive and the overall tech in the car from lane departure to carplay is horrible i guess technology wasnt a factor for CR.

I guess I must have been lucky.

I have been driving BMW V8s for the last twenty years since the e32 days, some of them to 150k miles, never had any horror stories, just standard maintenance stuff.
