All - quick update. A good friend of mine purchased a 2020 G05 and also purchased a nearly identical Thule system to the one that I warned about earlier in this thread. His - no whistle. What changed?

Thule discontinued the Aerobar and now sell what's called "Evo WingBar" (looks like it was released in early 2019). These are nearly identical to the Aerobar - but have a more planar leading edge with a series of flat planes vs a rounded/bull nose. A few other nuances to the shape seemed to have resolved the loud whistling I experienced on my Aerobars.

I have two different sets of aero bars, one through bars and one flush. The flush ones whistle, the through bars don't. Not saying it has anything to do with the difference between the two. But any small change or gap in the rubber on top, some say the placement front to back, etc can change things. For sure not all of the aerobars whistle.

I will say my previous set before those two was quieter, Whispbars (since bought by Yakima, believe that is what their Aero crossbars are from the looks of them).

Thanks for that...the total cost is about $550, so pretty pricey, compared to the BMW unit. The main difference I am seeing is that the EVO has a permanent rubber “gasket” covering the “T-slot” that would keep wind noise down. I would guess you could accomplish the same by applying a good quality pressure sensitive tape over the slot on the OEM rack. Has anyone tried that on the OEM rack?

These Thule Wingbars are the same ones I used for my 2015 X5 F15, its a 5-10min job, perfect fit.

Went for a spin, and found they do whistle, but only above 80kph (50mph) and its very subtle.

I have an alternative theory as why people are getting different whistling. I think its the curvature of the X5 G05 roof and where you place the rack. If you place them too far back, the wing is angled slightly upwards (not horizontal to travel), so I think it might cause some whistle.

I placed mine around 590mm from the front, and separated them by 750mm, and I got very moderate whistling.
On the weekend, I'm going to try experimenting with the positioning, including moving it forward to 500...even 450mm from the front, and see what difference it makes, I'll keep you posted.

I’m installing the OEM racks on my G05 today and picking up the Thule Motion XT XL roof box from REI that I ordered.

The Thule fit guide online doesn’t allow you to choose the OEM bars so I called their Customer Service yesterday. They will be updating the guide online as they said the Motion line (and he mentioned others but I can’t recall what they were) will fit with the OEM bars.

I’ll post some pictures later once I finish.

I just bought a pair of Thule Aeroblade Edge crossbars and will probably end up getting the Motion XT XL box to go on top. Any guidance on the best location for the crossbars to minimize any wind noise?

Yes to both. Currently trying to find optimal position to reduce whistling.

I have the Thule aerobars as well. I just ended up using lumpydog's suggestion of the 3M tape and that took care of any minor whistling.

oh, so they still whistle. I guess all roof racks whistle above a certain speed. How bad is it? I imagine it should be less than a system like the Evo Wingbar or the OEM style.

And if you could provide the thule part numbers. Would appreciate it. thanks

They whistle between 35mph and 60mph. Then I don't notice it after that. The whistle is barely audible while music is playing. I've had it on my car for two weeks now and it doesn't even notice it now unless I think about it.

The parts I got were the podium fit kit 4023 and the AeroBlade Edge 7603b.

When not in use I plan on removing the crossbars and I heard the whistle goes away when you're carrying the cargo box, so I'm not that worried about the whistle anymore.

I second that...loking for a slick, low sitting all black look on an X6, but any X5/X6 photos will give me a better idea what I'm looking for.

was about to pull the trigger on the thule aeroblade edge 7603b + fit kit 4023 + locks, but the fit kit 4023 is no longer available. I looked on ebay and found this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fit-for-201...oAAOSwcqFdqCpt

for $118.00

Anybody has experience with these or any ebay cross bars?
Beats spending $500-$600 dollars for the thule system...

Do you happen to know the overall height with the box mounted?
