Have you had any issues? I've used a JB4 of my last 2 BMWs (2014 328i, and a 2016 340i), both with great success.

However, I recently posted in the N63 forum of Burger's website about my concerns. EVERY......SINGLE......OTHER.....POST..... was nothing but people complaining about problems they were having, and I even saw BM back-tracking on a post saying "Well, the nature of the engine makes it very complicated to tune".

Not what I wanted to hear.

I have no doubt it performs better..... how's the reliability and stability of the tuning working out though?? Any CELs? Misfires? Other issues?

I have a similar history with JB4, as I've had it it on both my E70 X5 and F80 M3 with great success.

I have read the forums and the issues people have with JB4. Terry is right, this is a tough engine to tune.

With that said, I worked with Terry, sending him many logs on different maps with TMAP, EWG and OBD2 connected to try and get the perfect map for my car. We adjusted FF and WGCM levels and eventually was able to find a sweet spot on Map 1. I haven't had a malfunction or safety code since.

HOWEVER, before doing this, I was getting chassis/drivetrain malfunction codes on every other pull in the stock, "from the factory" JB4 firmware settings. The trick with JB4 is not relying on the stock settings, work with Terry to get it adjusted perfectly to your car with custom values and you shouldn't have an issue.

Hope this helps.

Dme tuning stage 2. Night and day difference! Great customer service and if you live near them, you can be in and out in about an hour. If not local, they can tune mobile.

Tunes and Driving modes

So what happens to the driving modes in the car ? will the tune update how each. driving more performs or will they become basically useless buttons ?

what kind of HP / Trq gains did you guys bet with the different tune companies ?

I've heard great things about DME. For half the price, JB4 was just the better buy for me. I have lots of mods on the list! (:

It does help.... thank you.

I can turn a wrench better than anyone I know...... but I've always been pretty slow when it comes to anything "computer" related. That part of my brain just doesn't function properly.

With that said.... I never "tuned" either of my past 2 BMWs.... just installed the JB4, set the correct map.... and forgot about it. Ironically.... even before that when I was a Subaru guy, I used the Cobb Accessport to tune my STI, and I'd even done a turbo/injector swap on that. Same story though: set it and forget it. I've never "datalogged" anything..... nor could I really tell you exactly what "datalogging" even means.

Living overseas, time difference, and my piss poor computer skills? Probably best I just hold off until they get something dialed in bit better. I mean.... 523 hp is nothing to scoff at.... it should move pretty well, even stock

The M50i is a rocket stock! It’s just missing the growl of the V8 but speed wise is pretty wicked

One of the very first things I plan on doing is disconnecting the exhaust flapper valve, and running it open at all times, because I agree 100%

Even the JB4 guys said the "best" I could hope for would be 30-40hp more than stock.... but with all the added potential issues (CELs).... I think I'm just going to skip the tune..... at least until it's more reliable.

I have tons of parts already here just waiting for the car to arrive (January??? Fingers crossed).... but the exhaust will be my first "mod".

Jack, not sure if it was you or someone else on this forum but did you ever install downpipes on your car? There have been some advertised downpipes but I haven't heard of anyone with one installed and their experience etc. I know RGSports is selling the Evolution Racewerks downpipe. I've also seen Supersprint and I think one other company have them but just no real life experience from a user here.

Thanks

I have yet to have a local guy who can let me and Evolution Racewerks confirm the fitment.

I believe one guy bought it just because of my assumption that they are the same, and it didn't fit.

They do not fit. I ordered them and tried but no luck. I also ordered the supersprint pipes but lead time is crazy. 2 months!

I believe you referred me to Autocouture over on the East coast before. I swore I saw an IG story of them saying "downpipe install on a G05" maybe 2-3 weeks back. But I never was able to see confirmation of it on any of their posts. If you have a relationship with them, I'm sure it's a phone call away to confirm what they used and if it worked?.

Are you getting your money back on these downpipes? LOL I hope so bc you're just dropping G's for trial and error!

I'm sure everyone on here would love to know if the Supersprints work out and the experience. I hope it works for you!

Hmm, I don't recall. LoL.
Do find out from them which downpipe that they install.

I know that when I talked to the owner of ER, he said that he need a car to confirm.

I went to auto couture for the attempted install. ER needed an x5 to get pipes to the market. I'll let everyone know how the supersprint pipes work out. They are in transit now from overseas so I hope to have in the next few weeks.

Ha so that was your X5 they posted on the story? I knew I wasn't seeing things. Eagerly waiting to see if the Supersprints work.

Have you used Autocouture in the past? I had some small cosmetic changes I wanted to do but I never got the chance to bring my X5 in.
