Burning oil question
Thought I would turn to this forum - for an AUDI question (I know, I know, but it’s for my 70 year old mom, 3k miles away!).
2013 A4 Avant - 2.0T 4 cy. 120k miles. Needs a qt of oil every few weeks, getting more frequent. No leaks to be found on the garage floor (according to her), no burning out the tailpipe or smelling of burning oil (again, according to her). But, evidently all of this oil is going somewhere. Any easy thoughts/price points? Not a fan of this car (but loved my 2012 S4/no issues) as it always seems to have something wrong- and at 70, might be time for her to get 1 last car…. Thoughts appreciated. Thx! |

Those old 2.0t are oil burners, oil is either getting past the rings or the pcv is sucking it up(less likely). I would say it probably needs an engine rebuild unless she want to keep putting oil in it. Probably better off selling it and getting her into a Corolla or something. I’m very familiar with the ea888 I owned a VW GTI for 6 years before my m340i. Also they switched the timing chain tensioner mid 2013 so it could have the old bad one or the new one. If it hasn’t had chains or a tensioner atleast, i would say you have a ticking time bomb at 120k.
