Re-Ordering Our X5

After about a month's journey, we had to hit the reset button on our 2020 X5 sDrive40i order. Long story short, our SA screwed up BIG TIME on the numbers and would not honor anything he had previously said (in writing mind you). Rather than fight him on it and get him in trouble, we decided to cut our losses short and just re-order a new one with a totally different dealership. What a huge difference so far in terms of attention to detail and thoroughness. Thankfully, between our first order and this one, we realized we would've changed some color choices and added some new options, so we did! Our new order is:

2020 X5 sDrive40i - xLine
Alpine White
Coffee Extended Merino Leather
Anthracite-Brown Poplar Matte wood trim
21" Y-spoke bi-color wheels (Style 744) w/ PRF tires
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Executive Package
Luxury Seating Package
M Sport Brakes
Acoustic Glass
Front and Rear Heated Seats
Heated Front Seats, Armrests & Steering Wheel
Glass Controls
Luggage Compartment Package
Harman Kardon surround sound system
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Total MSRP - $74,920

New deal is 10.5% off MSRP / 56% residual (12k miles) / 0.00142 MF / $2250 in incentives ($1000 lease credit + $1250 loyalty)

Overall same monthly payment on a higher build with same amount out of pocket. We're happy, just annoyed we have to wait until March now to take delivery. Order already placed and scheduled for Week 7 production.

Did not honor what was given in writing? Man, I hope he had a proper reason for this.
Positive side is you were able to adjust your build.
Wish you all the best.

Nope. This guy messed up royally in four different ways.

First, I asked him to lock in our rates in December, and he totally dropped the ball. He left the country for vacation without telling me and didn't lock in the rates for me. Come January and he wouldn't even honor the same discount off MSRP as he was giving me in December, PLUS the January rates/residuals were worse. Overall payment hit was $40.

Second, the quote he gave me in January and which I agreed to (and which I placed my damn order relying on) was based on a wrong residual. We wanted 12k miles/year and he accidentally put 55% instead of 54% in his system. He learned his mistake two days ago and said if I want 12k miles, it would cost the 1% residual more (approx. $20). My luck, the quote sheet he gave me did not specify residual, but did specify mileage and it was 12k miles! Not sure why he thinks he can renege on that now, but okay.

Third, he tells me two days ago that the quote he gave me in January was from their "new system" that accidentally saved the quote based on a lower selling price, so the actual monthly payment is $8 more than what he told me because the selling price is actually $280 more. Umm, okay.

Fourth, he told me point blank in two separate emails he would apply the full $1,000 Lunar event credit (the one I created a new thread and shared with everyone on here!) and yesterday he tells me he talked to his manager and they cannot honor the discount AT ALL. None of it. Mind you, HE came to me with this incentive and is now saying it cannot be applied.

In some ways the whole thing is comical and it almost seems like he wants to piss me off and sabotage the deal so he can sell the car to someone else. I guess we'll find out when the car gets to their dealer in the next day or so and I don't return his calls or emails.

Thank GOD I did not have to give a deposit for the order.

Wow that sucks but at least you will be getting it how you want it. Waiting and tracking your build is part of the fun.

Now torn between Vernasca and Merino. We have a very active 2 year old boy who likes to jump on the car seats and plan on having another baby. Any recommendations? We still have time to change the build.

Active kids = Vernasca

I personally have extended Merino, purely for my perceived comfort and quality over Vernasca.

First off, i'd share who the dealer is so others can be informed. if he screwed you, you can be sure you're not the first.

Regarding the leather; I just placed my order last week and went with Merino. we're empty nesters but we do have a 140lb dog lol. just ordered weathertech seat cover, door cover, and back of seat cover for when he's in the car. From what i understand the merino will require more maintenance but i think it's beautiful and worth the hassle. if you want it, go for it.

Thanks guys. From everything I've read on the forum and based on your comments, I feel like merino is the way to go. Already spending a bunch of money on this car and by adding merino it will literally be the perfect build (for us at least). It will be more maintenance but I think the comfort will be worth it. Already told my SA to recalculate payment and make the change.

bluzbra I am in the same boat. My build is becoming similar to yours except it is Black Sapphire (or Dark Graphite) as my current one is alpine white. I know this question was asked. What is 'Extended' part of Marino ?

Have you considered the spare space saver tire?
I see you have 21" PRF style 744, same as mine. Be advised that on the staggered wheel setup, there are no options for A/S RF tires. You will get summers and winters. There are a few threads which compile a list of tire options for 21" staggered. I ended up realizing too late that A/S is only in non-RF and couldnt add a space saver tire.

If you prefer A/S then it may be a good idea to add space saver tire.

Thanks for that suggestion! I did think about it and opted out from getting it. I'm in Los Angeles, so we rarely ever get rain or weather that would warrant having A/S tires. I like the Performance RFT that come with the car and will likely stick with those throughout the lease.

Yikes. Sorry you had this trouble. Sometimes I really wonder how dealers decide to employ some of these CA's. But then again some dealerships themselves are bad.

My first experience was also pretty awful. Total shadiness, complete lack of communication, and ultimately I got fed up to the point where i cancelled the order and went with another dealer who offered the same deal and was incredibly responsive. Granted it was only 2 weeks wasted for me vs. your month, but I feel your pain. In the end it'll all be worth it though.

I'm honestly shocked because I got my 440i GC from the same SA at the same dealership, and had such a good experience (granted it wasn't a special order, but still). I also referred a family member to him last year and he did a great job for them as well (again, not a custom order). But this third time was just a nightmare. Super shady, unresponsive, sloppy, deceitful, and clearly unprofessional. It comes as no surprise this dealership has less than 40 cars in stock TOTAL.

Good decision. Have to admit I was concerned about a last minute "misunderstanding" coming up on way to delivery. Fortunately it all went well.

Now, about that third kid.........

I would, but my wife does not like the look of the M Sport (I know, very surprising). And she also does not like the M Sport suspension. If it was me, I would get it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, happy wife = happy life.
