Walk away lock and key issues (2021 X5)

My 2021 X5's locking/key system seems to have gotten screwed up recently. It sometimes doesn't automatically lock when I walk away, and it sometimes won't detect the key (says I need to hold it to the steering column).

I replaced the battery in the key, and that didn't help. Time for a trip to the service center, or are there any fixes I can try myself?

Only thing that I can think of is if you have a 2nd FOB, see if it does the same thing. If not, then it could be a bad FOB. If it does the same thing, then it could be the receiver in the vehicle. I don't use that function any longer, but mine would lock as I got about 3 feet away from the driver door. I never used the unlocked when approached feature though.

Might as well try restating iDrive just to make sure you have that covered.

Is there any difference between restarting iDrive with the volume button or turning off the car and letting it sit overnight in terms of fixing iDrive issues?

Yes, overnight (or after a few hours) is what is called a sleep reset and doesn't restart iDrive since the software is always running.

Thanks all! I did a "volume button reset" to see if I could solve a ConnectedDrive issue, so I'll see if that fixed the walk-away lock issue.

By chance did the problem crop up after a drive in heavy rain?
