So, definitely not an EV specific architecture at any rate.
Yeah BMW seems to not want to build a ground up EV platform but rather a shared platform optimized for ICE, PHEV and EV. Guess we'll see whether this was a good or bad idea. Seems strange that they blamed the previous CEO for not being revolutionary enough with EV's and falling behind but they still don't want a full EV platform. This is most likely because they can cut costs through the use of a shared platform.
Harold Krüger actually declined to be considered for his contract renewal in 2020

Regardless I think your point is extremely valid

Which, of course, is exactly what they are already doing with the iX3, i4, upcoming iX1, upcoming i7, and presumably many others to follow.

Based on what we know at this point, the iX differs from the current strategy primarily in that gets a new name and styling not shared with an ICE BMW product. Sure, it has more advanced autonomous driving capabilities and a more futuristic interior than any current BMW, but it's also still two years until its launch. Within just a few months of its arrival in early 2022, the G70 7 Series, including the afore-mentioned i7, will become available and almost surely have most if not all of the same features.

Different, yes. But is it better, BMW? I'm not seeing it, at least not yet.

I'll reserve judgement until I see it in person (learned my lesson with the E60; hated in in photos, then I bought one), but that front end looks god awful in photos. Side profile isn't too bad, but overall BMWs seem too 'Asian' looking in the design department for me these days. I'm much more interested in the i4 than the iX. Also, 300 miles of range isn't going to cut it. Be better, BMW.

Car looks great except for that grill. Just shockingly terrible, worse every time I look at it. Its getting beyond the basic design that is bad to me now, its downright annoying to see.

Some very strange marketing for this car, also interesting to see the different ways brands are advertising their new electric cars.

"Strange" is kind. I think it utterly moronic. "Reverse psychology" is somewhat effective for 4 year olds - but for adult professionals with an income that can afford BMWs new trash, it's downright insulting.

Agree, I find that fact that they use comments that we make regarding our disappointment for the brand as a "slogan" for a new vehicle a slap in the face to the enthusiast and loyal BMW owner.

I love their marketing around this car. A few people complain about its look, mainly because its a change from the old boring BMW look from the last 15 years. Thisis a step up and forward and I've not seen any negative comments about its specs yet, meaning BMW nailed it tech wise.

Well done to BMW!

So I guess they don't want to appeal to the biggest market of SUVs, which is the US.

Edit: I was so looking forward to replacing my F12 6er with an electric BMW SUV (around the size of the X5).. but looking at how BMW is moving forward, forget getting an electric BMW that looks good, it seems they plan on ruining the ICE versions too. Mercedes and Audi seem to understand their customer base better.

It's almost the complete opposite of what a development team should do. They JUSTIFY their decision when customer's feedback is telling them the opposite.

I'm terrified what the new X5 will look like. Might be the last dagger to jump ship.

The interior is okay. The exterior is bland. Where it truly fails is range. By the time it comes out in 2022, Tesla model X will likely be in 400+ miles range. It is depressing to see BMW so far behind.
