I know, right?

Almost nothing mechanical and has four wheels that is made in Italy is reliable. This truism has applied for decades. Decades. The only real exceptions are some Italian motorcycles (Aprilias, mainly -- especially its scooters) and, IIRC, ItalKart go-karts.

Meanwhile, there's this ad-fueled clickbait drivel from Autobytel, which names the Giulia as the No. 1 most reliable European car in 2018. After laughing my way through that list, I vowed never to read (much less click through) another anything by that entity again.
agree with all that, but Poiseuille Jr prefers Tonykart===>

This would be a good time to remember that back when we were building Corvettes with pushrod sixes and two-speed powerglide transmissions, Alfa did this:

Oh, I don't think any of us are arguing that Alfa doesn't build beautiful sports cars. They do, and I absolutely loved driving mine. When I could.

I believe that is the ultimate sin, to create something so wonderful yet forbid those who purchase one from enjoying it, due to reliability issues.

Basically:

- Italians are fantastic designers.

- Italians are masterful fabricators. (This explains the success of small auto companies there.)

- Italians are horrific manufacturers.

See the distinction?

What the C&D update basically says is that the Giulia was due for a diff change. A car that has been in the fleet of a car magazine. It's not a big deal. I'm sure that M diffs have been replaced under warranty.

I am not Alfista, have never owned one. Alfisti are kinda stuck in the past, a bit like communists, I would think.

But the Giulia is a GLORIOUS car in every way.

Agreed. Actually both modern Ferrari V6's, the Alfa 2.9L and Maserati 3.0L, sound pretty damn awesome.

If I were in the market for a new car and could lease one on favorable terms I would jump on it. But for now I'll enjoy my lowly 18 ZCP

+2. The car sounds phenomenal. Not sure there's much to debate. It certainly sounds leaps and bounds better than the S55.

I almost made this move (a Giulia following my M235i lease ending) but I'm glad I decided against it and ordered an M340i.

A buddy has a 4C and whenever he takes his car in for service it's backed up behind dozens of problematic Giulias.

They do have solid driving dynamics and can be had for a deal, but it doesn't take many issues for the "savings" to not be worth it because of the amount of time consumed for repairs.
