ambient lighting issue

I noticed the other day that I can no longer change the ambient lighting color on my 2024 X5 50e. I was definetly able to do this when i got the car. Now I get ‘feature is not available’ the menu of color choices is gone yet I can tell it to change to purple or another color via voice command and it does wtf?

Try restarting iDrive, it may clear it up.

What driving mode are you in? You are ONLY able to change it for (and in) hybrid mode. Both Sports and Electric mode does not allow such customization

I think a few people posted that you can customize it for the Sport and Electric mode by unchecking a box to allow it. If I run across the posts I will link them or if you get a chance to check it out and let us know.

That would be interesting, I would love to know if that is possible. I always thought it is not and attempting to change the light in those mode yield the message OP mentioned.

That could be the case and I could be remembering a different change, hopefully someone chimes in if it can be changed. It doesn't make sense to me that they would not allow it to be changed but then again they often do things that don't make sense to me.

I was going through my car today and there is an option to disable the automatic themes in sport and eco mode. Can't remember exactly where though, just remember seeing it.

My car was running 2023.40 software.

Thank you for the info. If you ever run across them again and can post the details that would be great.

So mine doesn’t work in any of the modes. I knew about the preprogram for sport before this. I might try a reset and see if it comes back. Weird thi g is you can change using voice control but you can’t even view the color menu

Here is the menu where you can disable theme based ambient light.

Can confirm this exists in 50e as well and it indeed works. Thanks!!

The natural follow-up question is, is there a similar disable option for dashboard (so sport and electric mode retains layout options)?
