What is the s/w version and how to check if the iDrive has latest 8.5 OS?

Picking up 24 X5 40i on Friday.

or should I ask the manager to do the idrive upgrade to 8.5 before delivery?

It is almost definite you will not have the latest version of 8.5 since the factory is always behind what is out at dealers and dealers very rarely will do an iDrive update as part of PDI. It wouldn't hurt to ask them to update it.

To get the version you are running, going to All Apps -> System Settings -> Remote Software Upgrade will show you the version you are running

and just to confirm, are all vehicles getting an OTA of 8.5?

Only vehicles with the minimum hardware can be updated to 8.5, but I think all of the LCI vehicles should come with that hardware, so either an OTA update, or from the dealer, if it didn't come with it from the factory. The earliest LCIs seem to have come with version 8.

Not sure why you are asking that question in the context of our discussion but yes, at some point in time all LCI vehicles should get OTA updates.

ok np, was just checking if the major OS has to update at the service center.

The car is still in transit for the last 4 days from Renton port to BMW center, which is 3 hr distance

I think you are misunderstanding something. Your vehicle will have 8.5, just not the latest version, so not sure about the reference to major OS. For info though, the update from 8 to 8.5 was OTA in addition to at a dealer.
