2020 X5, Parts in Short Supply

On 12/28, I took my X5 to the dealer to fix my steering wheel (short in the heating element) and to powder coat my rims black. A couple days later, I was told the service tech broke the new steering wheel and the mounting bolt during the install. The dealer was apologetic and gave me a loaner.

Today, I was told the new parts won’t be in until at least the week of 1/29. Now, a full month without my car. I realize there’s a pandemic and parts can be tough to source but this really stinks, @#&$.

Long Wait for Parts

Good luck! My car was hit on 10/29/20. I'm still waiting for parts to be delivered. 10+ weeks and 3 lease payments later...I still don't have my X6 back

I'm not sure we can tie the delays to the pandemic. The BMW parts supply situation was terrible even before that. For a company that prides itself on its precision, engineering, etc. it sure doesn't do a great job with its inventory control/supplies systems.

I have the B&W system in our build and at least 3 speakers are either blown or the casing is vibrating (its been like that since the PCD and I only discovered it a few days later). I'm scared to take it in and have them do something worse and hold the car hostage for months...

BMW is mad at the dealer for breaking a perfectly good steering wheel and delaying it passive aggressively.

Wow! Three months is crazy long for a repair. Hope it’s returned soon.

Part of the problem is that some parts are stored in Germany. Even though assembly is here. That adds to the delay .

Also some parts require a new supplier po and that comes with lead time from factory to Germany and more of the above

Some parts, you mean just about all parts. About all they stock in the US are filters, wiper blades, etc. Things like that which are high consumables. Anything else comes from Germany.
It is a terrible system they are using. But it must be the cheapest way for them.

Well I didn't want to sound super negative Lol. Sometimes there is like one each and that's it .

I had to replace a mirror in an x4 last year and I bought the only one in from a store in PA that got it from a store in Florida. Lead time was weeks if I missed out

Update: dealership is paying my lease this month. Would rather have my X5 but I appreciate the gesture.

Still hope to have my car back by the end of the month.

Although I'm sure still frustrating, glad to hear they are at least trying to make up for their mistake.
