Gasing up with keys in pocket
So went to gas up for the first time with the X5.
The car kept locking and unlocking the whole time as I was likely just far enough and just close enough. At least it sparked a discussion with the guy next pump saying he loved the car haha but still annoying. Any tips? I’d rather not leave the keys in the car. |

I have set mine to lock by proximity but to only unlock when I put my hand to the handle.
That way, it might lock unintended by accident when I am nearby, but then it won't unlock again, thus avoiding that feedback loop you experienced. |

I’ve always set mine to unlock by proximity too. I’ve gone back and forth on setting it to lock by proximity; it’s nice if one tends to walk away from the vehicle with both hands full (as I do at my worksite).
One aggravation I’ve overcome is, after my X5 locks itself at home (securely parked in the garage), I unlock it with the key fob. That way it remains unlocked until the key is within proximity of the vehicle (typically the following morning when I leave for work). |

Interesting, I have mine set to lock/unlock by proximity and always have the keys in my pocket when fueling up and have not experienced that. I get out and walk around the back, or you maybe going around front of stepping away from the vehicle?

No I went around the back, then it continued doing it on and off as I was gasing. As if I was literally at the limit and an inch difference in my movement would have an impact. I could try becoming a lefty and fill up that way, then I’ll be closer to the car passenger maybe haha

Yeah, I was going to ask how old the vehicle was, and if you'd tried replacing the battery...a fresh one should have more range, and while refueling, you'd probably stay within range and it wouldn't lock/unlock.
One thing I did find, I sometimes carried two BMW fobs at the same time (different vehicles)...one vehicle did not like to work when the two fobs were in the same pocket, but would if they were not. |

Same, and a year old. My lock/unlock doesn't activate until I'm about 10 feet away, so has never been a problem filling up. Spouse's 40i, OTOH, has always had a problem getting auto lock/unlock to work consistently and reliably. Latest iDrive7, so hoping possibly updates will fix.
