My delivery was delayed 2 months last year, without any call back. From October to December. I got a free sorry not our fault (and a key chain).

They did keep the price they were buying my old car back and I could keep on driving it.

I finally waited 7 months. Compared to others not so bad. And I got a free keychain

After the first news of a burning 45e last year I installed a fire alarm in our garage not to be surprised in my sleep. I only charge at night.

Seeing how my iPhone sometimes can get warm scares me (a bit) if the same would happen to a 1000x stronger battery.

I just visited the dealer for something else and asked them about the recall.

It was a problem with one hybrid car not charging as it was supposed to and possible fire hazard. All cars have to get back to Zeebrugge and checked. Lots of unhappy customers.

Unfortunately, there is for sure a stop sale in the US. Was supposed to take delivery on Monday but like some others, now waiting without much insight into timeline.

Same technical campaign as others, STOP013222

Interesting, I see all the dealers still advertising the inventory 45e units and normally with a stop sale all these affected cars would be removed from the dealer websites...

Cars produced from mid-Sep on (and most but not all from early Sep) seem to be fine, i.e. not affected by the STOP013222 recall.

Yeah same with my dealer, all the inventory is up there like normal, but my SA told me that essentially all hybrids in their inventory are subject to the stop sale right now.

My BMW told me that they looked into this recall and anything between feb22-sept17 had potential impact. After Sept 17 it should be fixed.

So anybody ordering now in US should be ok.

I have been in contact with clients of mine who have been waiting for their new 45e just like myself. One of which would normally take delivery of his car this week. Everything is indeed on hold like everyone states in previous posts. This was confirmed by my salesrep at BMW. Cars on the list are going to Zeebrugge for tests and if needed fixing. This could take weeks apparently. Mine is due to arrive early november.
Sad to see another one went up in flames..
It was not the first and i fear it will not be the last.

Just fyi, I took delivery of mine today (productiondate 2020-08-20)
The dealer didn’t say _all_ PHEV deliveries were halted, only if their vin shows up in the system as being impacted, and mine was clean apparently, so no reason for them to keep the car from me.
I’m not complaining

Got mine in mid Aug and the website shows two recall codes now. Strange that my car was with dealer several times lately, latest today and they told nothing.

X5 45e smells of the egr cooler fiasco of diesels
hastily introduced changes to satisfy emissions regulations that benefits the customer and BMW but causes headaches for them both for years to come more so for the customer once out of warranty.

I'm afraid of putting my 45e in my garage (if I ever get the car, that is).

After i learned about the first one, my wife and i decided to install the loadingstation outside. We work at our home so we have the luxury of charging it outside when we are open. I try to convince myself this will eliminate the biggest chance of the thing burning down the building with us in it.
We were so happy and content with our f15 M50d. I hate the feeling of taking delivery of a car that expensive and not fully trusting it. But hey we rolled the dice...let's see how it turns out.
Either way the beast is going to look cool, even when it's fully a blaze..

The first case didn't bother me so much. Even though they said it was vandalism, I think it wasn't. But it was just a fait divers. However now that a second case has been report I start to worry a bit more. Probably they will come with an explanation it is not their fold either. Or was it a recently delivered car with the STOP problem that slipped through?

My car charges over night on the normal Bmw charger. I have checked numerous times if the cable, plug, wall socket get warm and they don't (after 5 h charging, 10h and the next morning). I have it on 10A and the electric system is 4 years old.

It is parked in a garage coupled to our house. I installed a fire alarm after the first fire report.

I don't even know the cable/ charger external components are the problem. The first one caught fire being parked the second one was charging but no details how.

I have informed to install a dedicated charger in the garage but it would have some architectural and so financial problems getting a heavier power line in the garage.

From what i have been able to figure out the fires start in the battery. I don't think there really is a way to forsee or prevent this from occuring when your luck runs out.
That beeing said allot of cars burn out every year and they are defenitely not all hybrids or electric cars. Early porsche gt3's where known to catch fire for example. My brother works at a ford dealership and after the first incident he said.. look, don't worry there are burned out cars in our lot all the time. It happens to all brands en types of cars. I don't know if you guys kow, but at this very moment Ford is also stopping sales en deliveries on al Kuga hybrids. Recall because of possible battery problems. They are not allowed to charge just as our x5's.
I also don't believe the first one happened because of vandalism. Did someone mess up a coyote install or something, was it a manufacturing issue? I don't really care who is to blaim. I just hate this feeling of not beeing able to completely rely on it in a sense of the thing not killing you in your sleep...

The chance that your home burns down due to an electrical short circuit in an ordinary home appliance is much much bigger.
That being said by my wife who works in insurances
