Will do. Probably won't have time to make it until tomorrow to pick it up.

Not all forums are as good as this one. Owners here really care about the X5 and I’m happy people outside the forum are taking notice. Turtle did a great job with the survey.

I have owned a ton of BMWs. BMW messed up with the 50e. I traded mine in because I didn’t trust it on a 1200 mile trip. My concern was right as I learned it malfunctioned again. I would have been stuck.

BMW needs to be more transparent with owners. I had to pay for a rental car the first time it died. Really silly on a 6 week old car.

What's the highest mileage anyone has first seen a CEL in the MY24?

I'm at 10,000 miles and no CEL yet. I'm hoping that means mine won't be having this issue. I do not want to go thru the buyback process again.

I don't think the iDrive software is what "fixes" it. In my case, they had to reprogram all the modules. That may be what they mean when they refer to the software.

Reprogramming all of the modules should be the iDrive update. Different dealers use different terminology often to make it sound like more work.

I specifically asked about that the last time I was in. I already had the most recent iDrive version and they said they did additional programming of the modules to address the CEL/Drivetrain warnings after replacing the BMU a week prior.

Without seeing the details it is tough to say. What they may have meant is instead of performing the usual iDrive update, which only updates the ECUs that have changed, they updated every ECU whether the software changed or not. Generally that has no effect since it is the same software unless something was corrupted for lack of a better term.

TurtleBoy Dealer notes say fault in CCU and car was updated / reprogrammed.

iDrive shows 11/2023.50 as the software version (pretty sure it was 07/2023 before).

Thank you, I was expecting it to be that .50 or .58.

UPDATE: The dealership found faults in 'SME system time malfunction' (have no idea what it means) to which they followed advanced information for this issue and cleared faults.

I am a new member.

Picked up my 50e on December 22th and and the CEL came on with less than 200 miles.

The dealership kept it for 3 days saying that the battery was not charging right so reprogrammed it, took it for test drives 3 times and then gave it back.

Drove another 30 miles and the engine light is back on and now going to the dealership back.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately not an uncommon occurrence. Hopefully the solution is found soon.

Odds are you won't have a problem and eventually they will find the solutions so go for it.

Technician said “usually software update fixes this but will likely need to replace module”. I think it’s the CCU?

Supposed to get a call on Monday with more details. Got an iX M60 loaner in the meantime.

Yes, I think quite a few have had the CCU (Combined Charging Unit) replaced.

New to the forum and joined after encountering the notorious issues by now with my 50e:
- delivery: end of December 2023, 11/23 build
- 1st CEL @ 8xx kms: radiator blinds (no fix, as it was attributed to ice buildup due to snowy conditions)
- 2nd CEL @ 1,5xx kms: radiator blinds (software updated)
- High Voltage System: Drivetrain @ 1,8xx kms (car could be driven)
Car is currently in service with plans to drop the battery, check battery connections and replace BMU (further diagnosis to be completed early next week, I’ll provide more updates once I have them).
Interesting fact: according to the SA, various High Voltage System related fault codes were found in a dormant state prior to completing the software update to address the 2nd CEL occurrence but repair plan instructions were for these to be ignored as they were dormant/ “soft” codes (never displayed on the dashboard up to that point); these codes becoming “hard” codes (displayed on the dashboard) triggered the repair plan that includes removing the battery.
Has anyone encountered these issues in Canada, where we don’t have the handy lemon laws? Any success in Canada with the buyback?

Update: Dealer called me this morning to ask me what kind of Charger I was using. I told them that my charger was not the issue as I’ve used it on the 45e and multiple iX/i7 loaners without any issues. Not really happy about that line of questioning.

I also received an app notification that my vehicle was updated to .58 today.

They are likely grasping at straws trying to come up with a solution. The bad part of that is that it is likely that BMW has no SIB/process for tracking down these issues. It is coming up on a year so whatever the root cause(s) is, it must be quite elusive to them.

We should put together a BINGO card of 50e solutions.
