Thanks for letting us know. Do you hear any wind whistle when you only have the roof racks installed?

Yes...but if you ask the dealer they always says no! On my previous E92 I installed bars from the E90 (they said they will not fit) and they are currently installed on my F82...

Anyone have a dual setup? Meaning a roof box and a cargo rack? I have the OE BMW bars and a Thule Atlantis 1800 box. I want to add a skinny cargo carrier. When I vacation trunk is full of stuff and I haul a seadoo. I just need some extra space to take a couple of iSUP’s ( stored in 2 backpacks 13” x 34” each) and misc stuff. The box and cargo carrier would need to be side by side so need a skinny cargo carrier that would squeeze in. Oh, and it’s an X6MC. Any ideas?

Each link above provides everything you need, the 4 feet, the two bars, the set of 4 clamps that are specific to the G05 roof rails. You could get the 47 inch Aeroblade cross bars if you don’t want the ends to extend - with the 53 inch, they extend about 3 inches on both sides, which I need.

If you wanted a fixed bar system, I believe the Thule 7603 system will fit the G05 and you would still need the 4023 fit kit.
Bumping for those newer to this Forum.

Are the cross rails fixed?

I was wondering if the cross rails must be in a fixed position or can be moved forward, back, or closer together? Looking at the OEM and the Thule bars.

Can you tilt or open the sunroof with these on?

Also, how quick is it to put them on and take them off?

Thanks.

If you were to load up the roof rack to maximum, you might have problems if you located them outside of the designated points. Likewise, moving them might incur wind noise and more drag.

The OEM bars located where designated do not impact the sunroof's operation unless something attached were to project below the bars.

Did you figure out this setup? I'm in a similar situation, but looking to mount both a box and kayak carrier

The image below is from Pg 112 of the original reference, Table of drag coefficients shown on this Wikipedia Page.

I initially saw an article 2 years ago showing a Tesla with its roof box mounted with the tapper to the rear. While not the same article, here's a good reddit link discussing it.

All in all, it's twice as efficient to flip your box to the rear. Luckily I have a Yamika & it doesn't look too crazy in that config.

I bought OEM and Thule Windbar Evo, ended keep OEM. No, they don't need to be at the fixed location. The install mechanism basically is just clamp. You can clamp them on anywhere on the flush roof rail from installation perspective.

Both OEM and Thule Windbar Evo are very high, way above any sun roof clearance. In fact, I wonder why they needs to be that high, especially OEM.

Put them on and take them off is easy one man job, I would say 10-15 minutes. Majority of the time will be used to aligned them. The method I use is a simple parachute cord, tie two knobs. I use it to locate where the foot of the bar needs to be.

If you search around, you can get the OEM bars for a major discount from Thule or Yakima. But, with new fit kits, you may be able to use those on your next vehicle if you don't sell them.

For those who have installed and removed the bars when not in use, does your rails show sign of wear/scratches? Specially if your X5 has black rails.

Yes they do. The spots the bars are clamped in look a bit dull compare to the rest of the rail. I kind of think they are rubber deposit from the rubber feets, because they largely buffed off. But I have only use mine twice, don’t know the long term effects.

I haven’t purchased these yet but do the clamps have rubber surface or is there metal on metal contact to the rails? In the close up photos I see there’s a rubber feet but what about when it clamps the inside and outside of the rails?

Yes they all have rubber feet’s at all contact points to the rails. No metal to paint contact or even hard plastic to paint contact.

I am afraid you need to be a bit more specific. Which bar, which box, suspend height setting …..

Even with oem bars and oem box, the box has a few different version and size. Not a one height fit all kind of answer.
