W/R/T - Agreed. If you're not hauling young kids, the X6M is definitely practical. But with strollers and high chairs and diaper bags and extra diapers, I think the X5M definitely fits the bill a tad better.

+1 on the X6M COMP. The overall uniqueness vs the x5.
I had 2x G05 x5 and 1x G06 x6 and now a F96 x6m. Also the 818M rims are only available in USA on the X6ms. |

Both great cars, essentially equal performance wise, thus it comes down to utility, aesthetics and presence! For me, the X6MC offered all the utility I needed (my kids aren’t in strollers), I love its aesthetics (it has that beast in a Saville Row suit quality) and it’s presence is undeniable (and it’s not commonplace). The F95 is great, it just wasn’t for me…F96 all the way!

* If you think you want an X6, then you REALLY want an X6 It's typically notable that X6 types are always "ZOMG totally X6 yo! " whereas X5 people are "they're both good" So if you're here trying to talk yourself into an X5, or out of an X6, then don't. It won't work. Get the X6. |

Simply put another way, I’ve never heard an X6M owner rationalize their purchase. On the other hand, I’ve heard quite a few X5M owners rationalize theirs with a combination or all of these, “it’s more practical”, “why pay more for less car”, “it’s got more cargo room”, “it’s got more rear head room”, “I love the X6 from every angle but the rear”…
Both the X5M/6M owner share a passion for the ultimate in power, performance and handling in the SUV platform, however the X6M owner is unapologetically indulging their desire for a bada$$, aggressively styled, wickedly fast and supremely capable SUV. While some X5M owners are still trying to justify the purchase of a 600HP+ SUV to themselves (or maybe to their S/O…”honey it’s got 6.5 cu-ft more rear cargo space!”). What do I know about what goes on in the mind of an X5M buyer, maybe they simply think it’s the better looking car… |

The X6M owner is the guy fathers warn their daughter’s about…”he might break their heart”, while the ‘practical’ X5M owner is the guy who is customarily set up on blind dates by couples playing matchmaker for their 3rd wheel lady friend. I hope folks realize that these comments are tongue ‘n cheek and mere slapstick fun… |

And what if said owner is female? Am I the woman sons warn their fathers about? Asking for a friend.

I have had both rigs. Currently 3 weeks into my f95, but wife has had a g05 40i for 2 years. I could have purchased f96 but I went with the f95 for these reasons:
-I love having a fold down tailgate. Lots of kids sports events and tailgating. -I carry 3-4 golf bags at times which is near impossible in 86/96. -the proportions of the f95 work well to my eyes, especially with rear spoiler. -styling of the f96 didn't grab me like my f86 did. The swoosh over the rear wheel well of the f86 is missing and the rear styling didn't grab me. I also thought the rake was a bit high, but just slightly so. So for me there were a few actual utility and styling elements that led me to the f95 over f96. "Downsides" of f95 are: -front A pillar a bit more upright so doesn't have as sporty a feeling (as a 86/96) when in the cabin. -not as unique as a f96. -larger, more truck-like hood while driving….I notice the front corners more.

for me i like the looks of the X6M and there was no thought of the X5M at all. by looking at this thread it looks like this is quite a contentious issue, but for me i will not be sitting in the back seat, and i don't have diaper bags and strollers to haul around...
