Music Hard Disk Size?

The X5 has an internal hard disk for music storage and playback. Anyone know how large (in GB) it is? The manual doesn't say. Thanks.

I am not in my car right now, but I am pretty sure it's 30gig now. I believe you can find the size in the in car manual or by following these instructions from the manual:

Displaying free disk space

Display free disk space on the music hard disk.

"MEDIA"

"Music collection"

Press the Option button.

"Manage music collection"

"Available memory"

It has 32768MB or 32GB. I have my music library on it now with plenty of room left.

Nice! Published numbers I have seen = 20GB. Looks like BMW was generous with the actual storage.

I have not had an opportunity to investigate this feature so I take it that copying music follows a similar trail? Are stipulations about what is available to be so used?

Yea, first thing I did was import my music library when I took delivery. No one gave me any hard numbers with all my pre delivery research. It was important to me. No need for sd cards or drives with the way BMW has a internal drive for music. I do use a thumb drive for my movie playback.

Seriously? Only 32g? Considering how cheap HDD's and SSD's are, on a $70k+ car they could only come up with 32g?

What manufacture has a bigger internal hard drive for music? Most manufactures just leave you a SD slot for your music. I agree outside the automotive industry, memory is cheap (except for Apple).
If 32gb is not enough then plug in a usb stick or stream from your phone or even combo all three. There is lots of options if 32gb isn’t enough.

I'm not a super tech savvy guy. I still use Itunes...not streaming.

I copied a few song files from my pc to an old usb stick to see if I could upload music to the internal hard drive. The Idrive is not even recognizing the usb stick.

Thoughts on what I may be missing?

Before you copied your music to the USB drive, did you format the USB stick it to Fat32? If so, are you plugging it in to the front USB port by the cupholders. The manual goes through all these steps.

I use these usb flash drives. They seem to work in all my cars.

Thanks - I had no idea what FAT32 is, but I do now after googling it.

I'll try it and see if it works.

For those that feel 32GB space is not enough, the system can play music directly from the USB thumb drive. This maybe one way to get around the space limitation.

Is this 32gb internal storage space dedicated for music files only? Where are the idrive system files stored?

That 32GB is just for the media that you can load, there is separate storage for the iDrive system.
