There was no LCI for 2021, likely MY23.

It is definitely necessary as it seems it is part of their trouble shooting procedure. Let them do whatever they want to do as they may hit upon the solution which will help others.

Check out this thread from the G20 forum. Looks like quite a few models affected although the G05 isn't listed. Can't be a coincidence...maybe more models affected than BMW realizes?

H/K Bass and Audio Failure '20 / '21? READ HERE:
https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1786245

EDIT: RAM fix is mentioned in the PUMA report in the link

The RAM im the hk sysyem? Or bad batch?

And the fix is to change the ram and it works? Or does it mean they need to switch the whole amp?

My take from that bulletin is they will check the RAM for that specific error message. If it’s there they will need to replace the AMP. I agree that it’s likely the G05 just hasn’t made the list yet, as if they have a batch of bad amps (mine is within the dates specified as I have a 10/1/20 build date) I would think the issue would happen in any vehicle they put those amps into. I’ll be monitoring mine. I only had it happen that one brief time. If it happens again I’ll look to get it addressed.

On the other hand...it does say the following:

"A diagnosis must be carried out in the event of a customer complaint."

So, did they actually diagnose or just tell you it only applies to faults read w/o actually checking?

It sucks the BMW TIS site is gone, because it perfectly laid out all of this in detail with schematics and booster types. But the end result is there isn't a 'whole amp' like we are accustomed to in previous BMW audio configurations. Now there's a base unit that does everything, and smaller addon units to handle additional components.

There are definitely various boosters, and there may be different RAMs as well depending on the config, but it's something like this:

RAM = AM/FM/Satellite + Power to the standard HiFi audio
Booster variant 1 = Used to power additional speakers in HK setup
Booster variant 2 = Used to power additional speakers in B&W setup

this has happened to me a couple times. Resetting the iDrive system fixed it. In my case, the audio connection was being interpreted by the car like it was a phone call, so that only speaker that was working was the front speaker in the center of the dashboard. I had been using the talk to text feature, so I think that is where the confusion came from. One way to tell is when you try to turn up the volume, if the volume gauge comes up as "media" vs "phone"

Constantly posting the same question here rather than letting them swap out the amp, ram and anything else they want to try is not going to get you a solution. Just take it to the dealer and let them do their thing.

Thanks man. I'll check this. What you are saying makes sense somewhat. I picked up my 2021 today. At first it worked perfectly fine, however on a trip tonight I experienced this issue. I tried shutting down the car, leave it an lock it for a minute but it did not fix the issue. I have not tried to reset the idrive system. I will try this tomorrow if it does not work. Also, in case it still does not work I'll look for the media/phone text on the screen. It really sounded like the usual speaker sound as when speaking on the phone.

This happened to me about 4 times in the last 9 months of owning the car. I just turned it on the next morning and it was fine again. I'm hopping its just a software issue and not an electronics or hardware issue.

They're not saying issue is RAM inside amp. I believe they're referring to fault code stored in RAM in control unit.

BMW has a revision to the HK amp that has some sort of fix applied.

Purchased my 21-440i on November 10 and it has been to the dealer now 4 times for the same issue. At first I couldn't get the car to replicate the issue, so they sent me home. After contacting Corporate, they took the vehicle back in and experienced for themselves what was going on. BMW told them it was the "Booster" in the vehicle, but there was no part number for this, since it was so new. They ultimately found and ordered the part, even installed it. Only for me to get the car back and the issue not be resolved. The dealership currently has the vehicle again and he emailed and said they started recoding the car, which takes several hours. They are then going to dial back into the car to see if there are any apparent error codes. Will keep you all posted. This is TERRIBLY frustrating on a brand new car. :-(

Press and hold the volume button in for about 30 seconds.
