My new X5 M60i - Upgraded from X5 M50i

So I sold my 2022 X5 M50i in March of this year after 12 months of ownership. I missed it immediately. I test drove a very slightly used 2023 X5M a few weeks ago and it was just too much (stiff and aggressive) for my desires at this time in my life (my daily cargo are two kids under 3). I planned on waiting until ordering a 2025 model, but passing through Richmond, VA on the way to a mountain hiking trip, I stopped into a dealership to kill some time and walk the lot and saw this and couldn't resist it! This refreshed upgraded M60i, I would say, is very different than my M50i and for only $10k more it was WELL worth the upgrade. Fully loaded with every option (aside from adaptive M suspension pro, which my M50i did have), including the B&W sound system that I really wished my M50i had. Photos from the pick up at the dealership, drop off at the detail shop 3 days later, and pick up 4 days after XR Plus tint and premium ceramic coating. It only has 300 miles on it so I have yet to even put the pedal halfway down even in comfort mode, but I can tell it's going to be a BLAST!
*Also (recently) previously owned a 2021 Audi SQ8, 2021 BMW M340i, and still rolling around in my 2022 Audi A4 Allroad as a daily... IMO, none of these previous cars (of course the Allroad wouldn't be expected to) touch the drive and comfort of the M60i.

This is making me more and more excited to pick up my M60i on Monday! I’ll be coming from 2021 m50i.

The only question I have for you is: what car are you getting after this in six months?! that’s a lot of cars to have all 2020+ 👍

Haha! That’s what my wife asked me. Honestly, I think this one will stick. I have test driven so many cars in the last few weeks and months. The only other car that I was considering was the RS Q8 and honestly it’s completely unnecessary. I think this X5 is the absolute best combination of everything that I’m looking for. All that to say, I did custom order an RS3 in December and finally had the order fulfilled in July for a 2024 model, but they say it will be another 4 to 6 months until it arrives. There’s a good chance I’ll take order of that because of how rare it is.

I’m excited for you! You’re gonna love it!

We are very similar, I would totally understand the RS3 as that is a true light sports sedan and ultra quick totally different driving dynamics, revs and sound.

I always need an SUV with a blend of comfort , moderately sporty handling and faster than 90% than most SUVs (personal thing and I enjoy spirited driving). That is the M60i for me.

My other ride is a motorcycle and that completes what I need for now. Lol.

Enjoy!!!!

You got the best color and wheel combo available. I'm not biased.

I did the same a couple months ago going from a 2021 M50i to a 2024 M60i but this time an X6. These are awesome vehicles on many levels.
Your M60i will serve you well and the new S68 "M" engine is really magnificient.
Best to all you guys taking new deliveries, enjoy!

I bought my first BMW (a '06 335xi 6-speed manual CPO) at BMW of Richmond back in '08.

Love the blue! Car looks amazing. Curious about your thoughts on the exhaust sound? I have the x5 m60i in white, but came from a Subaru, so everything is night/day for me. Heard some folks think the exhaust is too quiet. Anyhow, enjoy!

Personally, I love the sound of the exhaust. Mostly because it’s not obnoxious. I’m a real estate professional and I meet a lot of clients at houses for appointments. They see me in and out of my car often. I was hesitant about the color because it’s a little flashy, but all good. However, I prefer the car to not sound too aggressive when I turn it on. My previous 2021 Audi SQ8 sounded a little too loud, especially when I started it up in my garage. My wife hated it. And the Audi A4 Allroad (that I sold last week) had an upgraded aftermarket exhaust and that was too loud too often. This car has the perfect hum when you start it up, and when you put it into sport plus and hit that gas on the interstate, it’s absolutely magical, in my opinion. I think the sound is a perfect combination of V-8 engine meets professional daily driving vehicle. Congrats on the upgrade! Subaru to BMW is a heckuva jump. Enjoy and have a blast!.

So I picked up my RS3 last week. I’ve now been in my X5 M60i for 5 months. Two very different vehicles, as expected. The X5 M60i has ruined me… honestly I don’t know of a better vehicle around $100k. The comfort, speed, looks, size, safety, tech, luxury, etc. In comfort mode it’s just relaxed and so smooth. And touch a button into Sport Indv or Plus and it’s a rocket. The RS3 won’t last long. I couldn’t turn it down after waiting 13 months, and the resale is above MSRP because of how rare they are. It’s the perfect spec for me and lots of fun, but would have been better if I was in my late 20s or early 30s. Nearing mid-40s with a 3 year old and 1 year old, the RS3 just doesn’t fit in the mix. I do love the unique 5 cylinder engine and every inch of the looks of the exterior. But when I get out of it and hop into my X5, it just can’t hang. Now there’s a near $40k price difference in f course and I feel every dollar of it in a great way. Figured I’d send a quick update.

Hope you’re loving the M60!

Congrats! What are the key differences that the M60 has that your M50 didn’t? What makes it that much better? Genuinely curious as I’m considering the same switch.

Seems like a completely different car in many ways. Good ways. The engine, the interior and tech. I had the M suspension pro last time and honestly I don’t miss it. I did not have the Bowers and Wilkins last time and this car has that and for me it’s 100% worth it. Drastic difference in my opinion.

All in all, a much smoother driving experience with a lot of fun, albeit some subtle, upgrades.

Part of me wishes I would’ve stuck to my original plan and gone with the 2025 model, just to have a little bit more time separation. This one was on the lot and I couldn’t resist the Marina Bay blue. That said, I would’ve loved to custom built my own if I had waited. So maybe wait until the 2025 model?

Could you elaborate a little more on the adaptive suspension pro? Difference in having it vs not? Does it help to have it or is the extra couple grand not worth it?

I've also read posts that putting the new engine in the M60 is a huge upgrade over the old M50 version. Feels much more powerful etc. Closing the gap just a bit to the real M and making the M60 a true bargain. These your thoughts as well?

Thanks!

Personally I don’t think pro suspension is worth the money, for me. I’m in my mid 40s with two kids under 4. I’m not concerned with taking corners at crazy high speeds. The ride comfort of my M60 in comfort mode is about as smooth as I could ever ask for and the handling in all modes is incredible for a vehicle this size and weight. I’m not taking it to a track nor am I concerned about its comparison to a Lamborghini Urus.

The upgraded engine absolutely feels like an upgrade. In sport plus, the M60 is just a beast. So much so that I rarely ever go into that mode because even in comfort mode the engine moves the vehicle so effortlessly.

Hope this helps!
