2025 X6
Hi,
I have 2017 X3 and very interested in 2025 X6. I'm not really knowledgeable about vehicles and I'm trying to get some advices before I make a decision... 1. Is trade-in a better idea than selling it somewhere else or in person? 2. Is it really true the dealers cannot offer me any discount unless I'm eligible for their promotions? (The dealer said since X6 is rare, the BMW doesn't offer promotions on X6.. ) 3. Is it true it isn't worth buying a brand new vehicle because the value drops as soon as you buy it? (The more expensive, the more depreciated..?) 4. Is it true women get ripped off more than men do? (I'm asking as I was advised to bring a man with me to the dealership...) 5. Lastly, if you own X6, what color is it and why did you choose that color? (I like white and black one and that's all I saw on the road.. nothing else.. ) TYI!! Lots to unpack here. Let me give it a swing.
1. It’s simple math and it impacted by your local sales tax. My advice: look at the value of your trade and document that for use when you visit the dealer. I did a simple screen shot and the dealer met my asking value. They can run the numbers with and without a trade but then, the task of selling your vehicle falls on you. When we lived in Phoenix, selling our cars wasn’t an issue. Now that we’re in a rural area in the Deep South, it might be more difficult. Selling private party is a whole thread! Another option is to sell your car to CarMax or another dealer. 2. Depends on the model. The X6 is rarely discounted. Pls see my response to your post in the other thread. 3. Every vehicle except certain ones ie some 911, Broncos, etc, depreciate to some extent. Some depreciate more than others. There are several sites you can use to measure one model against the other. 4. Uninformed people are squeezed by the dealer. I don’t want to say that women are more taken advantage of than men but it’s a common thought shared by many. When I shopped for my stuck-in-QC X5, I took my iPad that had three screenshots: my build from the config tool, the KBB value for my trade and the broker discounts for a variety of BMW models which showed the discount at 9% for the X5. The negotiations took 5 minutes and I received exactly what I wanted. Could I have done better? Maybe another point at the most but not enough to feel badly. I also had a spreadsheet to plug in their numbers so I could see how much I needed to pay with and without the trade. Edit: if you or even your dad is a veteran, it’s worth another $4000 discount. No need to mention that up front. That’s huge! 6. When I looked at the X6, I loved the Manhattan Green with coffee interior. When I ordered the X5, I went with Tanzanite Blue II/the coffee interior. The larger body worked better with blue for me and hopefully, I’ll get it on the 25th! Best wishes. Arm yourself with information. Know what your trade is worth. Know the discounts for your new vehicle. Good luck! Last edited by CR290Guy; 09-07-2024 at 06:56 AM.. |

Welcome to the forum.
1. Depends on what you definition of better is. It usually is much less hassle trading it in rather than private sales but you likely will get less. You also have the option of selling it to CarMax, Carvana or similar and it is an easy process. Many folks will get a price from those places and see of the dealer can match/beat it. In many states there is a tax advantage to trading in a vehicle but I don't think your state is one of those. 2. Discounts are hard to come by on the X6 plus you are on the PNW which historically has the lowest discounts of any region in the country. 3. That is a question only you can answer. I personally only buy new vehicles and can care less about what the depreciation or future worth is. I'm not buying an investment but rather something I can use and enjoy. Some folks take the opposite approach and only buy used because they are less expensive and they aren't looking for new. 4. I would like to say that is false but many dealers will rip off anyone if given the opportunity. There is no need to take a man with you as the key is education and knowing the pricing, process, etc. This forum is a great resource and you have already started off well asking questions. As you get the different pricing make sure you get all of the details regarding fees, add-ons, financing rates, etc. and ask folks here what they think about them. Prior to that, do your build and post not here to get comments on what you are ordering. 5. Color is a personal preference so you will get many different responses and opinions. I would never buy a black or white one but that is me. You may always get them, that is you. Good luck.

I just ordered a 2025 G06, and did not get a discount. I had a hard time finding a G06 locally so ended up getting an allocation and ordering.
If you trade your X3 make sure you understand its value either through getting a competitive offer or through research. One a way a dealer can make money is through an undervalued trade. The dealer will also attempt you to finance through BMWFS. That is not a bad thing, but the dealer will also make money selling the financing. Keep in mind that is data point for negotiation. The dealer will make around $1500-$2000 selling that loan. Good luck! |

#1.......if you don't mind dealing with the wannabes and tire kickers I think you'll always get a better price selling privately. I've used autotrader.com successfully. They have a "private seller exchange" where they handle the transaction and provide the seller and buyer protection from fraud. It comes at a price which I think is .99% of the selling price. I sold my 2020 Cayenne last year within 2 days on autotrader and got $6k more than the dealer trade offer.
#4......dealers will take advantage of uninformed buyers male or female. Do your homework and know what type of dealer discount to expect. For example, 8-9% off a 40i is pretty common but discounts on an X6 are more challenging. Look into using a broker who will usually get you the best price although you may have to travel to get the car. Dealer discounts are in addition to any BMW incentives you may qualify for (loyalty, military, etc.). Also, make it clear that you do NOT want any add ons such as window tint, paint protection, interior protection, etc. Even if you do want such items it's always better to use a specialty shop which will do a better job at a better price. Also, at delivery, do not allow the finance manager to sell you any add ons. Just say NO! Best of luck.

2. Depends on the market area you are in. If the dealership in your area hardly sells any, then they are less inclined to give discounts on the X6. It also doesn't help that BMW does not sell very many. I'm sure there is some kind of discount they can throw your way if they really want to earn your business. Personally, I would shop around out of your area and see what deal you can get. If you're not comfortable negotiating a car deal, hire a broker.
6. My current X6 is Manhattan Green and Coffee. Like others have said color combo is your preference. Whatever makes you smile when you walk outside or into your garage and see your X6

Before moving here, never. It’s not that the roads are bad, it seems the shoulders hide a lot of sharp stuff and because of my volunteer firefighter activities, I’ve off-roaded here more in the last three years than the previous 10 years. Really looking forward to the PCD especially now that the vehicle was released from a 3 day QC hold. TurtleBoy explained they were likely waiting on a particular part or accessory that was late. On the way home, I’ll visit some SC cousins and my last living uncle on the way home. The only downside is traversing I-285 around ATL. |

2) 10% off should be goal from the msrp. I bought a 25’ X5 recently and achieved so. 3) brand new or used is a long debate. All depends on individual preferences. I like my stuff exactly like it want it so I’ve always done brand new without worrying about resale. It all depends on finances too. 4) male or female, both do. 5) you choose what you like best. I have a thread here “ex car salesman - 2025 X5”, it may help you out if you want to give it a read. Just search for it. It’ll help with the buying process and I have it laid out pretty well there. Good luck! |

Welcome to the X6 Club! I really like mine. I highly recommend Next Level Auto Brokers https://nextlevelautobrokers.com/. I'm in Oregon and Hans helped me get 6% off MSRP on X6 M60i back in May with delivery in July - for a very modest small fee. I'm partial to Tanzanite, but I like the gray colors too. Have fun with the buying and waiting experience.
