How bad is the damage?

So this afternoon leaving my parking structure a lady in a VW Bettle was making a wide turn and hit my car. No airbags opened but from the front wheel trim all the way down the side it's dented. How much do you guys estimate the damage to be?

That sucks. The cost to repair that damage is probably more expensive than the car that caused it...Can’t imagine a new font fender and two new doors being cheap.

Make sure you claim diminished value. Also, if there’s a police report, it will likely show up in Carfax. Some body shops also report to CarFax. Find out if they do.

Terrible. Really sorry to see this. How could this happen? Did she hit you and then continue driving?

I really have no basis for this estimate, but I'll guess $14k.

Depends - repair (bodywork) or replacement - but could be easily, given there's no damage to the frame itself. The doors are aluminum, so almost certainly a replacement. $14k might be the floor. And unfortunately with the wait on parts now, likely months, not weeks....

$3,000 repair in 2014 for a 2013 535:

Sorry to read about this. That damage won't buff out. That said, it is just a car and it can be fixed.

Sorry to see this. Yeah, this is go to be way over $10k to be done right. Basically half of the vehicle is probably going to have to be repainted because it will difficult to blend this.

Oh No. Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad no one got hurt. this repair is clearly going to be greater than $10K, for the reasons already noted above. I agree with the person who suggested claiming *diminished value*
Good Luck, and I know they'll have your car looking good one day.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Are you going to file a claim of that VW bug's insurance or planning to settle with the driver privately?

I called my insurance already to report it. They said the adjuster will call me tomorrow.

She hit me right behind the drivers from wheel and literally kept driving until I honked at her. Then she started yelling at me how I'm on her side. Clearly the picture above shows how much room she had on the right of her.

I was almost killed in a high speed, head-on collision years back. So in concept I try to believe that it's just a car and that no one was hurt in your case so it's not a big deal. But it's hard ... even reading your post and seeing the picture makes me fairly annoyed at the VW driver.

According to getbmwparts.com the exterior door skin is about $1,300 each. Looks like you will just need 2 of those and the rest will be labor/paint cost. This is assuming nothing behind the doors got damaged.

Make sure the VW didn't get your front tire during the accident. From the photo you shared, the VW could have grazed your front tire. If so, the steering assembly may be damaged.

This happened to my wife's G05 early this year. It was parked and a lady side swiped it. At first it just looked like panel damage. But her driver side wheel got hit by the other car and broke the steering assembly. The total bill was $28k.

These parts look like they may be on hand. Just doors and panels, no electronics or sensors etc. I had to get laser lights and censors from Germany took forever.

Thanks for everyone's input. So I went and inspected the car a little more thoroughly and it looks like the side skirt, both doors, both wheel arch trim pieces and the front fender are all damaged.

Aargh! Terrible. So sorry this happened to you. What an idiot. Why would she keep driving forward after making contact with your car? I am guessing there is no dash cam of the incident. I am in SoCal also. We have a lot of great body shops in the area and I am sure they will make it look like new. I don't think obtaining parts will be an issue. I've ordered parts the last couple of weeks and had no delays.

No idea. She also said my car is too big for the garage except our garage is so wide 2 hummers could fit. I hope the parts won't be back ordered. I've been hearing people with less damage getting written off because of parts being back ordered. If I have a choice Sterling Collision will be my pick they repair a lot of high end cars and sterling bmw also recommends them.

So sorry to see that, damage caused by complete bloody idiots is not easy to accept, but sometimes its a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time - "s@it happens".

Its hard to tell from the pics, but I don't think you need doors or any parts replaced, just a lot of body work, but a good bodyshop will be able to make that determination.

What color is the car? - Arctic Grey or Sapphire Black? - the 1st pic in the sun looks like Arctic grey, while the inside shots look black?

I wonder if Drive recorder would have picked up this incident?

It's black sapphire. I was thinking the same but I didn't want to pay the $99 on ConnectedDrive. Now I regret it.

Driver recorder is supposed to pickup incidents whether the car is on or off, and I'm guessing its got something that picks up an impact and records.

They'll have to paint the whole side of that car, from front quarter all the way back to rear quarter, and being Sapphire Black it should blend nicely.

Are you sure about that? I don't think the car can keep the cameras running in sleep mode. That would drain the battery quickly. (Yes, it would be great if it was recording 24/7..)
