Question Pet barricade for 2024 X5

Hi there!

Soon-to-be new BMW owner (previously drove Audi and Acura) and new to the forum.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this post, but I recently ordered a '24 X5 m60i and also have a very active dog. She constantly likes to move around in the car, which is dangerous for both of us, and I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for sturdy pet barricades for the trunk.

I highly recommend this one - excellent quality and fit. We had one on our previous SUV also.

I just installed the travall today on my 2022 45e. They really thought it thru. Fits like a glove

I also have the same Travall, as pictured above.
No complaints. Very impressed with the quality, design and implementation of the pet barrier.

You should really think about getting a crash tested crate for your dog. I also have the Travall, but I did it to keep my cargo from flying through the cabin.

I love my dog but this strikes me as a case where statistics might be worthy of consideration (at least for me). What are the odds of getting in a crash that is bad enough to put the dog at risk of injury and then, within that subset, the quality of the crate being a differentiator? I was obsessive about car seats for my kids - I am less so about securing the dog.

Any crash that can put you at risk without a seatbelt is more than enough to hurt your pet.

But it’s not just that, it’s the risk of the dog becoming a projectile in the event of a crash. Obviously this risk is mitigated through the use of a dog guard.

Everyone has their own risk tolerances, but your dogs should be properly restrained or caged. It’s no different than wearing a seatbelt IMO.

I also have this, and it does the job, so in general I like it.

It is not that easy to install and you should be careful. I managed to scratch up the headliner on both sides when installing mine. Before the screws are in the rounded edges can scratch it up pretty good if you aren’t super careful, and it’s awkward getting it in place. It’s not something you want to remove and put back in often.

I agree it's a bit tricky and needs care to install, but it's a quality product, which seems rare these days. I'm very happy with it.

Looking for any updates from those that purchased the above item or a crate? How is everything working.

On a side note for those that like crates: crash approved addresses the projectile issue as mentioned above. It's not a restraint. Your pet will smash into the crate in an accident. Speed will dictate your pets survival. A restraint system can help, but it will likely be insufficient in a major accident due to the momentum of the dog.

This with a nice rubber trunk rubber mat (BMW, Weathertech, 3wliners, etc).

Thanks this seems to be the consensus winner. I like the idea of adding a good weatherproof mat too.
