In the x5 in the US, full merino includes upper dash, lower dash, door tops and center console sides. All genuine leather.

Extended leather includes all of the above except lower dash.

The difference between extended and full is the lower dash. The price difference you pay for the lower dash is $1500.

Thanks, I'm in the US.
I did not know extended leather includes the leather dash/door tops?? I thought I needed to add both extended and leather dash.

I asked my CA to confirm the difference between Extended and Full Merino. He’s told me that Full puts leather on the lower dashboard, the transmission tunnel, lower door cards and Alcantara headliner.

All of the full leather BMW's I've seen have lower doors, lower dash, seat backs, dash, door tops, center console etc ie full leather not extended.

Edit: if they're screwing the US market then it shouldn't be called full leather, I guess we will see when someone who orders it gets their car

X2. Thanks, you beat me to the answer. I wouldn’t hyper sweat the full leather option. At no time do I look at my extended Merino and leather dash option and feel the car isn’t over the top luxurious. At this point you’re splitting hairs on how far you wanna take this. Without having the back of the drivers and passenger seat in leather, I personally would not find the full leather that valuable of an option. That’s really the only visible part I find at eye level where you could have put leather. Proper metal dead pedal and brake/acc pedals are far more obvious in attention to details. Quality metal/ black buttons on the seat adjustments instead of generic black plastic like the old X5 are details that you notice right away.

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing

here is one on Autotrader.

Looks like we do get screwed.
- Seat backs are not leather
- Lower doors are not leather

But we have the rest:
- Lower dash
- Bottom of center console (going into lower dash)
- Top doors

are all leather.

I still think extended is the way to go
Now that the snesatec dash is standard - you do not need leather dash.
Alcantara headliner is not included in full leather and can be added to the extended option as well. (probably just in black)

BMW is notorious for confusing customers with their Full and Extended Leathers depending on the series/model.

Case in point, I have Full Leather in both my 2018 X5M and 2018 M3CS; however, only my X5M's Full Leather covers the lower doors.

As I mentioned earlier, if ordering an M50i, I would go with extended coffee for the upgraded merino leather and also order the leather dash. I like the contrast lower dash to be black with the coffee. IMHO, I think the fake leather stitching dash/upper door trim looks bad.

I have extended merino + leather dash since full wasn't offered for MY19. there's no take leather on the doors from what I can tell. door tops are definitely leather

For our X5, if it isn’t Merino leather on the seats, then it is high grade Napa leather for all the trim. No fake or even grade 2 leather anywhere.

correct, I should've clarified that the dash and other areas can also be Nappa leather. here's my door (ignore the dirt down low it was raining today)

Extended Merino DOES NOT include leather dash or door tops. Those are $850 xtra charge.

Correct, I should have clarified that better. I was trying to highlight the differences between extended leather plus leather dash vs full merino.

Extended merino includes:
Merino leather seats
"Double stacked" leather transmission tunnel

Leather dash adds leather upper dashboard and leather door tops.

Full merino includes:
Merino leather seats
"Double stacked" leather transmission tunnel
Leather upper dashboard
Leather door tops
Leather lower dashboard

The difference between extended+leather dash and full merino is the lower leather dashboard. The cost difference is $1500.

I agree with all of this, which is why I'm trying to get the word out. Dealers are clueless as to what is included with full merino, and BMW is not forthcoming with information. I regret ordering full merino...it delayed my order three weeks, screwed up my PCD plans, and locked my build from edits. As such, I'm not getting the exact car that I want. My CA, the sales manager, and the GM at my dealership were blissfully ignorant to all of these consequences. I had to educate them. And at the end of the day, all I'm getting is a lower leather dashboard. I think the take rate on extended merino will be extremely minimal once the word gets out. It is a very expensive option that comes with several sacrifices. On the other hand, extended merino + leather dash is an excellent value in my opinion.

I don’t think it’s that much. Selecting Full Merino meant that the Alcantara became a no cost option, although possibly only on the XLine in the standard ivory. When I specced it on an M Sport the anthracite Alcantara was still a £1000+ option. So maybe 62.5% wrong?

Ok, ordered extended coffee with leather dash

Wondering what the color of the leather dash would be? Coffee?

The only Full leather worth getting is

_ white with Blue

BMW seems to own this option.

With that one you get

- Blue leather dash
- Blue top doors leather
- Blue alcantara headliner

Jeep did the blue/ivory full leather interior 3 years ago. Blue dash, etc...
I had it. It was a $5k option. The theme feels very “nautical”.

In the USA it does not give you Alcantara for free. Still an additional $650.
