We reported our issues upthread as they happened.

The person with the most complications was AndroidRobot
yeah welcome to the club. everything will go out with connected services: radio, microphone (works but not really), GPS and all cellular communication

That is what strange. Its been a week of this message and everything is working. I read all threads and saw the issues. Cant replicate

Gps and nav work
Hotspot works
Connected services too

How long did it take to loose the services?

Also - are you guys saying the only solution is to replace the Telecom unit since it is possibly managed by water and to replace the shark fin antenna to prevent future leaks?

How do they test for leaking?

that area of the roof is very flimsy even with big sun roof - you push it and feel the metal flex.

usually (the past 2 times) it's within a day 2 weeks. the first time it took about 2 weeks, 2nd time was less than 12 hours

they don't leak test it, it's replaced by dropping the headliner. my shark fin wasn't touched because I took my car in and it was dirty, the shark fin and surrounding area remained just as dirty with no indication it was touched. they replace the interns from underneath

Add me to the club.

I got this error last week, it hasn't gone away since and my car has not been driven and kept indoors for almost a full week.

Everything seems to work just fine though, no issues with GPS or bluetooth (mic) etc.

I guess I have to take it in

Took the truck into the dealer today to have the repair done and they say they're ordering in a module to be installed tomorrow, so fingers crossed it gets fixed.

More interestingly, they gave me an X1 as a loaner and what irony. As soon as I pull out of the dealer lot I got the same error message my truck is in for!!
WTF? Do all their models have this issue?

That is indeed very frustrating, but does the emergency call system work despite this warning?

Seems like the leak is in the sharkfin area it has to be repaired glued and water tested. Only acter they can replace parts. Otherwise it will leak again.
Android was right. After 1 month of message gps went and they are re attaching the sharkfin

My car has been in twice now for this error.

Error is gone (for now) but it my Navigation shows I'm somewhere I am not. In other words, the car has no idea where I'm driving. In fact, this morning I drove through a lake (according to my car) to get to work.

I have been to the dealer 3 times with this same issue. I quoted this forum and asked the dealer to check the shark fin however, the dealer stated that they checked for erosion and there was none. I had an oil change about two months later and the next the day the error showed up again. I specifically asked again for the dealership to check the TCB Unit and they stated they did however, I received an odd message while I was at work. The service manager stated that while changing the TCB Unit and the while trying to reprogram it nothing worked and that's when they discovered the sever corrosion of the antenna assembly , which I asked them to check months before, based on the data from this site.

I asked the maintenance person, why is this just being found when I asked for this check months ago, well there was only the standard "I understand how you feel " but this is the second new X5 I have had issues with and I have only had two, a 2015 and a 2019. My trust in the BMW brand along with my trust in their closed ear approach to customers is starting to have me look at other options for my future driving machine needs.

I am highly disappointed in the fact that there has been no bulletins out for this issue and there is a lack of acknowledgement of a problem and the lack of response to customer complaints all over the internet in reference to a brand new vehicle. I understand there are bugs with anything new however, the lack of action is mind blowing.

My car stated I was driving down the Mississippi river, the second and third times all telemetic functions stooped working...Hey BMW, Phone calls, SOS, and Navi. I had to use Carplay to get how from the dealership from a pert of the city I wasn't familiar with, could have ended bad if I would have ended up in a bad part of town.

Had to bring the truck in again a second time for this and this time it was in for over a week.
They say they tried "a new glue" and had to do some detailing and buffing around the shark fin. This bothered me especially since I had ceramic coating done...
The loaner X1 they gave me was quite new and had a non working passenger door handle and took me at least an hour of fussing to get CarPlay working with my phone.
Finally picked it up and no connected drive functionality, the dealer says there is a network issue. Bullshit...

Last month for the simple recall of the rear camera brightness, they found an issue with the camera heaters in the front windshield and had to keep it for 3 days to replace the entire front windshield!

Very disappointed with this vehicle.
I wish I would have leased it, this was a poor purchase choice.

Just had the same thing happen to my 2019 X5 40i
Water leak from shark fin, caused damage to battery that sits right underneath the shark fin
Took 30 days to get parts
2 days after it was fixed, I get the same emergency call system malfunction again
Will go to dealer tomorrow and demand a buyback, or will lemon the car
I’m not keeping this car
Hope the 2020s are better

The first time they replaced the telematics control unit
And the special SOS battery that it connects to as well, which took 30 days to source!
Then 2 days after getting it back, supposedly repaired, the issue reappears
And the car is continuously calling the bmw emergency service
They all know me on a first name basis now
Problem is when it’s calling the emergency call
Nav doesn’t work, no regular phone calls, nothing appears on I drive screen except the emergency call.
Went to the dealer today and requested a buyback
They said they will get in touch with bmw NA and figure out how to do it
But they did say they would get me out of this car, one way or the other
Got a X3 M40i as a loaner, nice car, great sounding (fake) exhaust
But looks much cheaper on the inside than the X5
I’m assuming this leaking food was addressed on the 2020s
Might just get the same exist car, but a 2020 build

Picked up my 2019 X5 40i for the forth time, I was told that the dealer stated that during the replacement of my TCB Unit they found a tiny leak around the shark Fin that happened at factory. So it has been there since the beginning and I asked them to check for this two months ago and, here it is, interesting, it seems to be ok for now I took the car for a wash immediately after picking it up. I was lied to by this dealer twice and if it happens again I will may take other actions available to me. BMW shop boss here acknowledged that it is a factory issue that I have yet to see a recall or even an customer heads up, really pissing me off, looking for alternatives now.

I am glad to report that after approx 2 months (on and off, not straight 2 months) in the shop. It seems as though they have finally fixed my car. Its been over 2 weeks with lots of rain, snow and car washes and no error has come back.

From my understanding, they replaced anything and everything and they were told by BMW that this would fix the issue. I can get more details if anyone needs to help their Service Department put this issue to rest...
