I struggled with the language in the pricing guide's October revision regarding this. Jay, do you read this to mean that the Orbit Grey wheel, 1XB, will be offered concurrent to the 1XD wheel? I certainly hope so. I have 1XB on my week 46 build and really do not want to be forced to 1XD.

I may have answered my own question. My CA got back to me quickly and confirmed I will still have 1XB.

I'm not a big fan of black wheels with the machined face.

I like the one on the right. Not a fan of black rims.

Totally like the grey/black rims on the left, if paired with a white or black exterior color

Sorry that I revived this thread but another member was interested in seeing 21" style 744 Orbit Grey rims with Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV performance winter tires in staggered set-up.

I had this X5 for a day when I was out shopping. I really like the gray wheels in person, I'm planning on getting a set for my winter wheels.

Hello Jay,
I am thinking of getting the 21s on the right for my build. What is the difference between all season runflats and the performance runflats.
Thanks.

Anyone can answer your question.

All season run flats provide all season traction all year round. Good enough for snow and limited ice traction.

Performance run flats provide increased handling response and traction, particularly in wet and dry conditions. The compound becomes less compliant when temps drop below 40 degrees and are literally hockey pucks on ice in snow and ice conditions. You'll need a set of snow tires for the winter.

Your tire options will be extremely limited with 21"

Oh oh.. We normally do atleast 3-4 trips up north but most of the time of the year we are in dry and triple digit weather. So this will not work for me. Doesnt justify the investment for winter tires for once in a while trips in snow/ice.

The issue is 20"-738 are okay but the 21"-744 looked much better even though I know comfort wise it will take a dip. All Msport options look fantastic but I want to stay within Xline.

How does this work though? Say I buy 21", can I buy all season RF with the dealer and he can do price adjustments? Or I have to buy additional tires and keep them in my garage when not in use.
Basic questions - but I am trying to understand since in Arizona we really never have to do the seasonal tire change rituals.

Also, I noticed 21-744 are staggered, and different wheel sizes for front and rear. Is that why you mean by choices are very limited ?

You and your dealer can negotiate swapping out tires and what the cost differential is. They will most likely not have A/S RF in stock which leads me to answering your latter question:

1. Yes there are limited A/S tire choices for 21"
2. Yes there are limited A/S tires sizes for 21" in BMW's staggered sizing.

Here's a thread just below this:

Thank you Auricom.
I am now seriously considering opting for 1XD on my build. I have to submit my final build by sunday night so that the order can be placed monday.

Thanks for your information below. I had some additional questions.
1. Is there a way to sell almost unused (<20miles) stock performance RF tires. Dealer mentioned they will not buy them from me even though they know its a new car. My intent is to sell stock perf RF to offset my purchase cost of A/S RF for 21". This way I can be forever on A/S RF on 21". Any info will be helpful.

2. Say I do end up keeping both sets, do the swap between perf RF and A/S RF have to be done only in BMW to avoid warranty issues? or can I go to discount tires or similar to get this done. I understand many people will be doing this yearly between summer-winter setup. How much is the swap cost roughly?

Thank you. I am trying to see if it is worth going to 21" cost wise or stay with A/S 20" style 738 (even though I really like the 21" in OP)
